Curtain rings with clips in them

I recently found some great Ikea curtains in a charity shop. They're ruffle-top though. My local sewing shop will change them to eyelet for £150.

I can't stand those white plastic hooks that you put through the pleats and then through the little hole in the curtain ring. I had those in my old house and they were rubbish for a heavy curtain, always falling out and the worst possible faff to put up.

I saw some curtain rings online that basically have a little attachment like a clothes-peg or a binder clip at the bottom. That will work, right? I'm just not convinced they're sturdy enough. Has anyone tried them?

IKEA themselves do various options including ones like that with clips, but not sure how they’d fare with heavy lined ones

I've been using mine for about 3 years after a made my own curtains to match my room.

The only tip I can give you is to make sure that the top is thick enough to really grip the top of the curtains - I learned this when they kept slipping from the clips every time I shut or opened them.

Think I paid about £1.99 for a set of 20 from B&M (they did silver and black).

Also, when I wash the curtains I remove all the clips and if they are feeling a bit stiff, I give them a little squirt of WD40 and they are as good as new.

I forgot to add have a look on eBay and maybe buy two sets of curtains are heavy.

How do you put the hooks in? I have never had any fall out.

Alternatively, do they have enough length to fit eyelets yourself? I don't think it would be a dreadful sewing job - you can buy eyelet rings from John Lewis or similar.

I wish I still had a sewing machine! I agree it would be nice to just alter them myself..

Thanks for the suggestions. I saw some "pinch pleat" hooks which look quite sturdy, I might try those.
