Gross..

I'm sorry to type this but it's grossed me out and I need to vent and maybe someone might say something to make me feel better, who knows. Anyway here goes.

I have not got a washing machine yet since moving. So I'm going to the launderette. After I washed our clothes, as I pulled them out I pulled out a used sanitary towel and it's 100% NOT mine. It was pretty clean but not totally, but at the same time I'm assuming had been through one wash by whoever left it there and then another wash with my clothes.

Really really grossed out but it was towards the end of the day, and I had no change or funds left on my card to do another wash.

I told myself that I'd done a hot wash, there would be no surviving germs and I was about to put all clothes on a high heat dryer, for 40 mins. So there should be no germs.

I can't believe I did that and am now wearing the PJ's. I really hope I don't get too many b*tchy comments, I'm so grossed out even though logic tells me there's no risk in terms of health or germs.

Not sure why I'm sharing, I suppose I'm hoping someone will say something to make me feel better, but then again, someone might say something to gross me out further 😩

Oh God! That is vile, you poor thing.
No words to make you feel better but you have my sympathy.

TopazQuartz · 18/09/2023 00:10

thanks it IS vile and I would never have dealt with it this way, but for a long day, not well, exhausted, no money on me. Saw a friend halfway through who thinks I fuss about everything and she said as long as hot wash and hot tumble dryer there will be no germs.

I now realise this is still not ok. lol. But too late this time.

I mean it's not ideal, but I also wouldn't give it too much further thought. I mean it would have got at least 2 washes, yours and the previous one.

TopazQuartz · 18/09/2023 00:15

MaraScottie, thanks, it got 2 washes WITH some other person's blood.

I really need to toughen up, lol. Appreciate your thoughts. :-)

That would freak me out too. I would be disgusted.
Hope your ok and your new washing machine come soon

noctiscaelum · 18/09/2023 00:52

It's fine. It's been thorough wash at least twice. By the time you placed your stuff in it, it was already clean.

TopazQuartz · 18/09/2023 01:12

Thanks last poster, it was already washed, it's true.

I'm convinced it doesn't smell fresh, but I know that is psychological. I just have to grow a backbone 😂

OP I'm intrigued as to how a sanitary towel survived two washes?! Was it a cloth one?

TopazQuartz · 18/09/2023 03:03

PerlieQueen, no it was a disposable one, was obvious from the colour of it (though it was a bit screwed up) that it had been used. I imagine they survive longer now the way they are made, a lot with plastic backing etc.

Tell yourself that it was unused but discoloured by being washed with something which shed colour in the machine. It was effectively clean before it even got into your wash. Sorry you have had this shock - check the machines are empty EVERY TIME before loading

LordSalem · 18/09/2023 03:17

Oh that's fucking grim Envy (not envy). I’m surprised it didn’t break down after two washes and spread little bits of it over every item. They must be more durable than back in the day. I would be that person who asks a manager to put up a sign. After all, it's their machines that could get clogged with things like this, not to mention it being unsanitary. Bleurgh.
