Intertrigo… treatment?

Posting on here because I always find Mumsnet helpful (I changed my username!)

Basically, to be blunt, the skin between my bum cheeks / my bum crack is really sore, and has been for a while. The worst bit is probably just below the top of my bum, where the skin has become so red and sore, it is exposed. If I wipe there it bleeds easily, and if I wash it in the shower by opening up the cheeks it’s not pleasant.

Reading about this online, I think I have Intertrigo. Thinking about it too, I don’t actually think I dry the area properly after a shower (or sometimes wash it properly due to the exposure to the hot water being really painful). I’ve realised now that I should be washing and thoroughly drying the area - but how do I do this when the skin is so delicate and sensitive?

In terms of creams, I’ve been applying sudocreme for a few days but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. What else should I try? Canesten? Any other recommendations?

TIA, and apologies if TMI!

Do you mean impetigo? If so you need fuciden cream. Poor you sounds very painful, I would go to the gp.

I would see your doctor as they can prescribe the right cream, in the meantime try to keep the area as dry as you can and don't pull at your skin.

You may need an anti fungal cream that you can buy over the counter such as miconazole or daktarin but Sudo cream helps the soreness. I get this under my boobs sometimes with open skin but it clears quickly with the above.

Intertrigo is red sore skin in folds of skin - prevalent in obese patients in their tummy folds of skin or under heavy breasts. There is a great product called interdry which you may be able to get - but I don't think this is what you have

@rosesandpetals103

I get this - my GP prescribed me Lotriderm ... it helped massively .

Its basically an antifungal and a steroid cream

Also - read about inverse psoriasis .

You need trimovate from the doctors and barrier cream. Im just nearly out the other end of intertrigo nightmare under breasts under tummy in bum crack. Trimovate, barrier cream then gauze and tape it there. It takes ages to go sorry.

I get Daktacort cream on prescription for intertrigo under my tummy flap and in my groin area. It is good but I can never totally get rid of it.

Thank you all.

Also dry the area with hairdryer on cool. Pat not rub with your towel anyway.

Iloveanicegarden · 18/09/2023 10:51

@FrogFairy try using an anti fungal body wash regularly. Dry well and use a medicated body powder or Daktacourt if it doesn't go.

FrogFairy · 18/09/2023 10:54

@iloveanicegarden thank you so much for the advice.
