How Do I Strike..?

I’m in a union and we are supposed to be striking in a couple of weeks for 3 days.

if I strike, what do I do…?

I know in theory I should be near work so that, should miraculously the union and the local authority reach an agreement and the strike is called off, I can go back to work.

I can’t even think about picketing..!

There is a rally in the city centre but I also can’t really imagine myself going there and waving a sign….definitely not if there is a chance of being on the news (when our teachers were on strike our teacher picket line outside school was the only one in the country filmed and was all over the Scottish news…!!).

Can I just have a long lie and then visit my son at college 70 miles away?

Can my friend spend the day hill climbing..??

You don't need to do anything except not go to work that day. There's no obligation to picket, you can do what you like it's your time and you're not being paid.

I'd be wary of planning a longer trip in case the strike I called off and you need to go back to work.

Just stay at home. Agree with Pp, your local town is better, don't plan anything by way of a holiday or family reunion.

I'd consider the rally though. It's a way to find camaraderie in a common cause. You might find new friends.
