Hi, in the process of looking for a new to us family car. Current options within our price range are 2018 Discovery Sport (HSE) , 2017 Volvo (D4 R-design) XC60 or 2018 Jaguar F-Pace R-Sport

We are 2 adults, 2 DC aged 13 and 8 and a dog. We are quite active and tend to cart a lot of stuff about with us so need a large boot space, and want a comfortable drive.

Any opinions, pros and cons welcomed!

TiA

Volvo. Most reliable of the 3.

Definitely Volvo. DH is in the motor industry and we wouldn’t dream of buying the other two from your list.

Reliability-wise, the Volvo. You're just asking for trouble with the other two.

Volvo.

Thanks, can I ask why not? I've been told to check for full dealer service history and check for timing chain issues on the Ingenium engine but other than that what are the issues? I see plenty around and they're so much prettier than the volvo! Although reliability is a major desire and I don't want to buy a big lump of metal that's going to have us forking out more.

I'm leaning to Volvo for safety, but I love the look of the JLR vehicles.

I had a 2018 XC60 R design and it was excellent. Only sold it as was getting close to 100k and as I do a high mileage thought I’d go for something more economical (v60 mild diesel hybrid, 56 mpg). Both Volvos have been totally reliable. Most people I know with beautiful JLR vehicles have real problems with reliability, and once out of warranty they cost £££ to fix. The R design seats are super comfy too.

Go with the Volvo. Ours has been the most reliable car we've ever owned.

Discos are notorious for having problems. My petrol head DH would not touch one with a barge pole.

Volvo.
