Embarrassed

Just in the supermarket, only had £15 so carefully counted up when I was going round. No access to any other funds today. Ended up being 17.70 so asked the checkout lady to take off one thing which took it down to 15.20, didn't have 20p extra so had to ask her to take something else off too. All while there's a queue of people behind me. Just felt so embarrassed.

Next time can you get a scanner to add it up as you go round or use a calculator?

I’m so sorry. I know how embarrassing that can be, but I guarantee anyone who overheard only felt sympathy for you, not judgement.

I’m a little surprised no one offered to make up the difference for you, but you never know if the people behind you were in the same situation I suppose.

Try not to overthink or let it get you down. It happens all the time

Ah don't worry, most people don't really pay any attention to what's going on at the front of the line anyway. If they're anything like me, the people in the queue would be staring at the conveyor wondering what it is they have definitely, 100% forgotten to pick up.

I can’t believe a queue of people noticed and no-one offered to pay. I know I would have. So on that basis I reckon no-one even noticed and you can stop feeling embarrassed. Not that you should feel embarrassed anyway.

Don't be embarrassed. You won't be the only person in this position. When I was a child, my DM had to do this all the time. (Well before a cost of living crisis)
