What would you do about this foot injury?

It’s the weekend so GP is out of the question. The top of my foot is extremely painful. The pain seems to be coming from the joint of the second toe/toe next to big toe. It’s also swollen at the base of my toes, but not red or hot.

Pain came on Tuesday and it’s progressively got worse since then, today is the worst day though I have done a lot of unavoidable walking

Hurts to wiggle toes, really hurts to spread toes & makes me wince when I have to walk on it. Even just standing for washing up is very sore. I am literally hobbling about the house.

I don’t know what on earth I have done! I haven’t been doing any sports or any longer than usual walks.

I’m not sure if ignoring it and walking on it until it gets better will work, or possibly this will make it worse? I could go to the walk in centre but they obviously won’t know without an X-ray and the queues tomorrow will be fantastically long. Woo NHS.

WWYD?

Could be gout but regardless I would go to the walk-in centre - you don't want to mess about with it and then be hobbling forever!

Extensor tendonitis maybe?

Ice , ibuprofen , elevate and get to minor injuries when you can

Go to a&e tomorrow they will at least assess if you need an X ray or walk in

alexdgr8 · 16/09/2023 02:05

it needs to be assessed medically.
i wouldn't leave it myself.
go wherever is open early in morning.
or fill in 111 form online.
good luck.

No history of injury so X-ray probably won’t be justified in ED/MIU.
Could try 111
Rest Ice elevate and ibuprofen&paracetamol until GP
