Why do people lie about height?

I had a lamp delivered. Description says 170cm. It’s not. It’s about the same height as I am (5’3” - so around 160cm).

I’ve had this with Christmas trees, too. I buy a 6 or 7 foot one and when I get it out it’s shorter than me.

Why?

Do companies think we won’t notice?

This was not the thread I was expecting.

I've noticed sometimes bonkers things like the height of a handbag includes the handles. Perhaps they were including the lamp flex!

This!!!

But on topic. Lying or just measuring wrong ? Seems more likely somehow.

You seem paranoid

I find this all the time!! The tree one is the most annoying - they normally measure height from the top super spindly twig branch which you need to fold in to make it look good, suddenly losing 6 inches.

Worst for me is on clothes - I've ordered a 36" inseam that's arrived and is 34" 🙄
