80s soft rock perms

Just trying to take my mind off my poorly dog so thought I'd start a thread.
When you see 80s rock bands in music videos they all have below the shoulder perms.Were they not allowed to be famous until they'd grow and permed their hair to an acceptable length?
You never see one with an in-between length.

Pretty much everyone had big hair in the 80s. Teenage me would never have been seen outside with hair flat to my head. I had a perm from 1985 for about 10 plus years.

Ha ha, the 80s were my heyday, loved a soft perm on a rockstar, hence my username. That video is hilarious.
