I’m leaning towards David Suchets Poirot 🤔 but we don’t have Amazon here (well we do but the German one and more limited choice!) and not sure where I’d get the stuff from!

also, while I’ve got you, what detective/crime themed food would you serve?

Clarice Starling, Silence of the Lambs character with stuffed toy lamb. Did contemplate it for a movie party once.

TwigTheWonderKid · 14/09/2023 18:56

I'd go as Phryne Fisher because I love 1920s fashion.

SaulGoodmanIsTaken · 14/09/2023 18:58

Inspector Gadget, miss marple if a bit short on time and costume resource.

Food, silence of the lambs is a good shout as above and seem to remember Agatha Christie is a lot of tasty high tea type foods.

MrsBlueFly · 14/09/2023 19:00

Sherlock Holmes!

Bananasplitlady · 14/09/2023 19:00

Columbo.

GeorgeBeckett · 14/09/2023 19:00

There's a police hat in our dressing up box so I'd wear that rather than buying anything! And then work backwards through my favourite police dramas. I thought Catherine Cawood but I think technically not a detective. Maybe Kate Fleming.

Food... mystery pies with clues to what's inside? Doughnuts?

SaulGoodmanIsTaken · 14/09/2023 19:01

Cheeseboard with a mousetrap?

Insommmmnia · 14/09/2023 19:02

Also Phryne Fisher

Or Angela Marchmont if we can do book detectives

WhatALump · 14/09/2023 19:02

Basil, the great mouse detective

BasiliskStare · 14/09/2023 19:02

Foyle , Fedora and overcoat and roast chicken in some form.

Bourbanbiscuit · 14/09/2023 19:03

Vera

beetlebrain · 14/09/2023 19:03

I made a themed dinner for my daughters recently. It was the key dinner in Strong Poison. Beef consommé, turbot, chicken casserole, sweet omlette. No arsenic though.

Ascendant15 · 14/09/2023 19:03

Amelia Peabody. Easy to make up a costume (Egypt archeologist) and a conversation starter as few have read the books.

Drews · 14/09/2023 19:03

Jessica Fletcher. She had some lovely blouses and fairisle knitted jumpers.

StopStartStop · 14/09/2023 19:04

Columbo. Scruffy shirt, tie, suit and raincoat. Take the dog.

beetlebrain · 14/09/2023 19:04

Oh, and I'd go as Brother Cadfael

sockarefootwear · 14/09/2023 19:05

Whichever Scooby Doo character you either look vaguely like or have suitable clothes for a costume to hand. Extra points if you have 3 friends who will join you in going as the whole crew!

HickoryStump · 14/09/2023 19:05

Basil 'The Great Mouse Detective'

PosyPrettyToes · 14/09/2023 19:06

Definitely Miss Marple - I reckon I could rock a decent tweed.

Butteredtoast55 · 14/09/2023 19:06

Speaking of jumpers, Sara Lund or possibly I'd go as Madame Blanc as a floaty maxi dress is an easy outfit.

Beaverbridge · 14/09/2023 19:07

Miss Marple, think she, d be easy enough to dress up as. High tea, sandwiches scones etc for food.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/09/2023 19:08

Kinsey Millhone in her all purpose black dress, because I have such a dress. I might help people out by wearing a sticker with "K is for Kinsey" on it.

drinkuptheezider · 14/09/2023 19:12

tight jeans, bomber jacket, curly wig
Starsky and Hutch
Bodie and Doyle

< shows age>

EducatingArti · 14/09/2023 19:22

Harriet Vane from Lord Peter Wimsey, if I could do the 1930's costume. Food could be anything from 1930s

Catacendre · 14/09/2023 19:30

Does Waxillium Ladrian count as a detective? Definitely him if so!
