Could someone explain glasses direct for me?

I've been told bcouple of friends it's probably the most cost effective way to get spare glasses, but one said she was asked to take a photo of her face with her credit card on her head, this sounds like a scam?

Looking for positive stories before I venture in.

Thank you.

I've used them in the past and all was good. Really good deals and quality. Don't worry, the credit card thing is to measure your pupillary distance if the optician hasn't included it on your prescription.

Thank you, I was a bit worried as it sounded too good to be true. So i just ask for my prescription from my current optician and use the website?

I've used them a couple of times in the past with no problems - I got my "normal" glasses from my usual high street opticians where I had my eye tests done, then got spares and sunglasses from glasses direct.

This is my idea too.

No probs. Yep exactly that. It can feel a little cheeky doing it! But you're under no obligation to buy frames from your optician and they should give you a printed prescription upon request.

There’s a little code on the inside of your glasses on the arm - that will help guide you to the right glasses. With sites like that, not all frames are available in all sizes so make sure you filter to the right frame size so you aren’t left disappointed. It’ll be something like 57-12-140

I've never noticed this before, thank you.

I used them when my beloved raybans finally broke and used the measurements from those to find some 'dupes' as I struggle to find glasses to fit my face properly, I like them oversized. I paid £90 I think for 2 pairs and they're great although the blue coating on one pair is a bit much.

cannaecookrisotto · 14/09/2023 15:24

I use selectspecs.com and they're absolutely amazing!

EggAndSpooning · 14/09/2023 15:53

Can recommend Select Specs too. Very budget friendly.

MrsBlac · 14/09/2023 15:56

I used them for myself and then for my Dad. No issues and reasonably priced compared to the high street.

Clefable · 14/09/2023 15:59

You don't show the credit card details!!! You use something credit-card sized to check the fit for frames (they can get measurements of how far apart your pupils etc are from jt). Just use the blank back of a store card or something.

Clefable · 14/09/2023 16:00

I've used them and SelectSpecs before with no problems Smile

CyberCritical · 14/09/2023 16:01

They let you try them on too, you can pick up to 5 frames, they deliver them, you try them on and post them back, they take a £1 deposit so they can charge you if you don't return them but otherwise it's free as long as you post them back within 7 days.

I’ve used them and they are great

There's no code on my frames 🤔

AlrightJulia · 14/09/2023 16:23

@baconking try looking at the nose pad area and the bridge (metal bit above the nose joining the lenses)

AlrightJulia · 14/09/2023 16:24

I've used glasses direct for many pairs and always been happy with them.
I would not recommend goggles4u. The lenses just aren't as good quality and the glasses now sit in a drawer.
