Now I think it's a boil!

I keep getting a big pimple inside my nostril. At least, that's what I thought. Every few months or so it comes back and even makes my nose slightly misshapen.

I don't know what to do about it. Is one meant to see the GP about a slightly painful boil? Seems a bit dramatic. Or am I dying? What can the GP do anyway? And why does it keep coming back?

Could you go to the pharmacist to ask for advice?

FannyBawz · 14/09/2023 09:13

Staph ? Causes boils, lives in the nose.

when my son get a sore nose it’s always the start of staph and he ends up with a boil elsewhere

Missingthegore · 14/09/2023 09:24

Ouch!
No answer but have had a pimple on my septum and it was so sore every time I wiped my nose until it popped like 6 months later. My sympathies

You might just need some Naseptin (sp?) to get rid of any infection. Works a treat, in my experience. You can get it through online pharmacies but you may as well get it prescribed by your GP and get a proper opinion.

I can't get an appointment until Tuesday unfortunately. So frustrating. Apparently they can be dangerous (I now realise it must be a staph infection, I've had trouble with that nostril for maybe a year now off and on) but if it hasn't killed me so far I think I should be able to hang on for another few days.**

I am a cancer survivor and now I'm worried that this means that the cancer is back but of course that's nonsense. Just a bit fed up with everything in my life at the moment!

** edited to add: this part is light-hearted, obviously!

Congratulations on being a cancer survivor! I know you said your worry was light-hearted, but I imagine in your position it must be hard for things not to at least cross your mind. In light of that, I’d agree the dr is better than a pharmacist for advice, even if just to put your mind at ease.

hope you get sorted - I’ve had spots right on/in my nostril and they’re bloody painful!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/09/2023 16:39

Be careful Staphylococcal aureus stays the the nostrils and can be quite serious
My DS tweezed a nostril and the infection basically ate through to the outside

MyOtherTherapistIsAHorse · 14/09/2023 18:23

Yes, I’m definitely going to the doctor but I can’t get in until next week. Am doing my best to keep my hands away from my nose until then!

So sorry to hear your DS’s experience, it sounds awful.

Yes Naseptin sorts it right out.

mynameiscalypso · 14/09/2023 18:29

Oh goodness, I've just realised that this is exactly what I have. I've been ignoring it and hoping it will get better (even though it hurts!) but I'm immunocompromised and didn't realise it could potentially be so risky to do that. I hope yours gets better soon!
