What's with all the I 36(F) and DP 39(M) etc posts?
Have they been started by chatbots? And how are the sexes and ages relevant in most cases?

It's the equivalent of DH/DS/DTD-type speak, but from Reddit.

Drews · 14/09/2023 08:48

It's an abbreviation format used mostly on Reddit.

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/09/2023 08:50

It's bloody annoying.

YANBU. "Husband (36M) and me (24)F" is totally redundant. He's your HUSBAND. He's probably not going to be an F, is he? It grates so much. I mean, by all means if you're in a same sex relationship and you call your wife your husband as some sort of internal way of referring to people, then we would need to know "husband (36)F" but only as a way to signify the unusual!

I'm also sick of seeing "DS" and it turns out 3 (blocky) paragraphs in that the DS is not OP's son, but in fact her sister. Use DSis FFS!

Feel like such a pedant now for ranting but it's annoying! 😂

Devilsmommy · 14/09/2023 08:56

Rant away, I love a good bit of pedantry🤣🤣🤣

Dear God. I thought computers were supposed to be better than us at spotting redundancies and other syntax issues! If this is the future of AI, can you imagine the code they'll be writing?
<! DOCTYPE HTML>
<! no wait, DOCTYPE CSS>
<! actually that's not a doctype is it? The elderly and tragically obsolete 386 sitting patiently and pandaly in the sparse and dim computer nursing home told me it was incorrect. Stupid boomer computers. Anyway from his aged dove grey box emblazoned with the RM symbol, he loudly said through hissing speakers that I actually actually actually wanted DOCTYPE XTML and a dot matrix printer>

Edited: Original had nowhere near as many superfluous adjectives to come from ChatGPT.

Usually it’s the (M) posting in this way, he has an ‘athletic build’, tells us he's a great catch and often turns out to be a woman hater/misogynistic prick. There’s much piss taking and the thread gets deleted. 😬

Wendysfriend · 14/09/2023 09:13

Yes !! So annoying, when I seen your heading i actually thought it was another one. Don't know why it annoys me so much.

I don't mind the ds, dd, dh etc but adding in the M and the F and the ages, then some will have extra names "let's call him Johnny", then "let's call her Jane", and then sometimes there's a 3rd person, I can just about figure out what the post is about, but when they start calling people "A" and "B" and "C" with the added (M) (F) jeeze I end up clicking out, it just confuses my brain.

MermaidEyes · 14/09/2023 09:16

I find it really annoying, and often giving ages is pointless anyway and adds nothing to the post so not sure why they feel the need. Also agree I reckon a lot are bots.

KickingEAP · 14/09/2023 09:19

It reminds me of my A/S/L teenage chatroom years

Ha ha tell that to the Daily Mail and its brethren. “The event was witnessed by Jane (41) from Hull”, “Steve (56) was shocked to find a slug in his iceberg lettuce” “The 36 year-old singer was snapped today…”

There are clearly editorial guidelines out there that say ALWAYS STATE THE Age!

AIstolemylunch · 14/09/2023 09:32

I was going to say Daily Mail! Also with totally irrelevant house values. Tom (57) and Jane (53) witnessed the aliens land as they stepped outside of their £865,000 4 bedroom detached house.

But yes this has been standard for many years on Reddit, mainly from relationship and sex boards so was sort of relevant when people were saying 32F wants children but boyfriend 31M won't comity, what can I do. Or youthful guy with althletic build 65M seeks 23F for fun, dates and no strings sex who can be discrete etc etc.

No more annoying that DD, DS, STBXH etc I guess just not used to it on MN.

MermaidEyes · 14/09/2023 11:03

Haha too true about the Daily Mail, although I think all newspapers do it. Wonder how many lie about their age 😆

amusedbush · 14/09/2023 12:44

As PPs have said, it's from Reddit.

Reddit has its own version of AIBU called Am I The Asshole? so I've always just assumed people posted their predicament there, then copied and pasted it on MN.

RampantIvy · 14/09/2023 20:03

Thank you everyone. I admit that I find it irritating as well.

I find it annoting too, I can't fathom Reddit at all and hope it's ways dont spread to here, u less in very specific circumstances why do the ages and Fs and Ms need to be stated?
