Stain remover for white clothes?

DS has just started reception, he’s coming home filthy! Both Mondays and Tuesdays tshirts went straight into a vanish soak when he took them off. One scoop in a litre of water for sixish hours. Then rinsed. (Tub says to do one scoop in 4l of water but the jug I use is a litre.) They’ve both been washed today and neither came out clean. So I rubbed concentrated vanish powder onto the stains and left for five (more like 15) minutes. Rewashed. No better.

I’m using the bog standard vanish, not the whitener one and not the “gold” one. Before I spend a fiver on a tub, is there a better product out there?

Sun bleached them last week but it’s no where to be seen now.

Soak garments in cold wash with salt added, that will help draw out the stain. Then wash with Napisan and usual detergent. This will remove most stains.

Wow ok… so just normal table salt? This is great, thank you, never heard that before. Sounds a lot cheaper than vanish!

Keep one shirt pristine for school photo day.
So long as the rest are clean, don't worry about stains. The jumper will cover them for several months anyway!

@ReeseWitherfork yes usual table salt.

I don’t really know what the stains are, all orangey. They have oranges as a snack and I’ve always struggled with orange juice stains. Some of them looked like normal mud going in. And some are definitely sun cream.

@CatsOnTheChair this is a great tip, thank you.

Wash at least 40 degrees, use bio powder and ecover laundry bleach, simple.

Ariel on whites at 60C wash & occasionally Vanish Oxi Gel Stain remover.
Line dry if possible.
Kept the DC's polo shirts, normal shirts & socks pristine.

Oh good I’m not the only one who struggles with this!
DS’s Primary thankfully had a yellow polos and though they weren’t totally stain free they didn’t look horrendous.

One week into Y7 and we’re already got 2 shirts that I personally wouldn’t wear - one where DS lost a tooth and got blood on the collar & another got bolognese sauce on it.

Both dealt with swiftly using stain powder for whites and washed twice each and both still showing a stain.

Some of them will come out if left out in direct sunlight. Sunlight is great for removing fruit stains like oranges. I haven't found anything for sun cream though.

I actually bought fast out stain remover from must have ideas cost me a fortune and it bleached anything that was coloured and didn't work on the white stuff I bought it for either! So def don't buy that.

I hadn't heard of the salt thing. Might try that! My daughters blue shirt came home last week with black paint in the colour and I can't get it off.

Soak in biological powder and white vinegar, works every time.

We had this with paint , as dd was a demon for it. Send in an old adult t shirt to go over clothes if that's a problem.

Take a look at Nancy Birtwhistle on instagram. It's a natural cleaning rabbit hole I've recently discovered, spent ages watching her videos. I'm tempted to get her book and make up some of her green bleach etc

Why do primary’s school still insist on white polo shirts? so impractical.
