Fur - Yay or Nay?

I've always liked fur clothing, and hope to one day own a full coat, probably mink as its more sustainable. I've been lucky to inherit some small pieces (fox and rabbit) owned by my grandmother, they are very precious to me, as well as some hats and gloves bought abroad made of rabbit fur.

I always get mixed reactions when I express my love of furs. Older people tend to be accepting of fur whereas younger generations I've found are very anti-fur. In countries like Italy its very common to see gentry dressed in their furs all through Winter, its the norm, whereas other places seem to foster great stigmatism towards it.

Don't get me wrong, I love animals. I've had pets of every kind throughout my life (snakes, lizards, cats, dogs, spiders, mice, guinea pigs, tortoises, chipmunks, fish, stick insects, chickens.....to name a few!). I'm a meat-lover too. People assume I hate animals because I wear fur and eat meat. I don't hate animals, but I won't turn down a good steak or pass up a good bargain on some fur.

Just looking for some opinions on the subject.

Watch an animal get skinned alive for their fur and then form an opinion.....

It is absolutely vile and unnecessary.

You don't need to skin an animal alive for fur, just as you don't need to battery farm chickens to get eggs.

It's lovely - on the animal it belongs to.

100% agree with this.
I always think anyone else wearing fur looks extremely show offy and seriously ugly in fur.

I doubt very much that you will actually wear any fur in real life if you have to meekly ask for opinions on MN.

I wear furs in Winter. Rabbit fur hats and some gloves, I think they're fox, that were passed down to me. The hats were from Poland that I bought a few years ago. There's literally nothing warmer, and I really appreciate having them when the temperatures get really low.

I should add, presumably you're not talking about anything endangered?!

Correct, I wouldn't buy anything that was threatened.

You don’t need to skin an animal alive no, but that’s what can happen because it’s cheaper. It’s a vile industry supported by vile people.

It's probably mainly from the dalmatians she can kidnap...

@GR8GAL please don't pretend that you like animals if you wear fur. Just be honest especially if you are buying new.
Also please watch videos of animals being skinned alive and the conditions in which they live then come back and justify your position.
No excuse for fur in this day and age, there are fantastic synthetic alternatives.
I can't believe that in the 21st Century people need educating on why they shouldn't wear fur.
