What on earth was this alarm?

Got woken up at 4.20am by a really old alarm. Thought it was my carbon monoxide alarm, but not that, not me smoke alarm, house does not have a burglar alarm. And it didn't sound like a car alarm. It went off twice and then not again. I'm absolutely puzzled!!

This happened to me once. It was the fire alarm which needed its batteries replaced.

That was my first thought, but it wasn't the right noise for a smoke alarm. One of my neighbours houses has had a bleeping alarm for a while, but it seems to have stopped. My smoke alarm is mains powered.
Could have been in next door's house, but it certainly sounded like it was in mine.

Our smoke alarms are mains powered, but they have a battery backup inside. Sometimes these beep in the middle of the night, just sporadically, as the battery is on its way out.

As does mine. But this wasn't a bleep it was a really loud siren like alarm.

Our motorbike alarm doesn't sound likea car alarm. It can very occasionally be set off by a fox or cat.... although they don't do it twice!

Do you have a cordless landline? If ours is left off the hook and the battery runs down, it beeps.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2023 06:45

No, I thought it was some random
Alarm on my phone but it wasn't. I thought it was coming from inside the house. But could possibly have been next door. It's a student house, and I think I have new neighbours. Although it's a terrace, it's very well sound proofed. So I never hear anything.

It wasn't a beep.

Are you 100% sure you were awake? Every so often I have hypnagogic hallucinations and hear things in the house. Once it was my brother calling my name from the bottom of the stairs and the other have usually been alarms of some sort. It usually happens when I’m really tired or stressed.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2023 09:22

First time no. But second time I thought I was.

Came here to say this... when I'm very overtired just as I'm nodding off to sleep I have auditory hallucinations of a bang or bomb type sound. It's very loud to me, but it's not real. Happened a lot when I had a tiny baby.
