Views on Hamilton? Saw it at the weekend with my 16 year old daughter and we absolutely loved it.

We will be going again!

We loved it - would love to see it again too!

Sorrytomoan · 12/09/2023 20:37

It's touring!
I think it was the best show I've ever seen. Felt quite emotional at the end.
My daughter cried!

Prefer the Disney filmed version than when we went to see it in London... (ducks)

TheFlis · 12/09/2023 20:38

I have been to see it 5 times so you can guess what I think 😁

I cry every time. And yes, I will be going again, probably early next year.

Goldmember · 12/09/2023 20:39

I've only seen it on Disney+ witht he subtitles which helped. I did love it though and the DDs love it too.

Barleysugar86 · 12/09/2023 20:40

Didn't understand all of it but enjoyed it. The music was powerful and you can't beat live theatre. I've downloaded the soundtrack now so comes on at odd times on my music. Love you'll be back and helpless.

Frightenedbunny · 12/09/2023 20:41

I love it! Watched it in London. Cried like a baby into my covid mask when it was necessary to wear them in the theatre. Have tickets to see it twice in Manchester when it tours. By far my favourite musical. Very, very clever.

Same. Although we did absolutely love it.

Sorrytomoan · 12/09/2023 20:43

We'd seen it on Disney few times so we knew the songs and the story. It is long and complicated.
The original cast are amazing (except Lin Manuel Miranda who can't sing but will forgive him cos he's a genius!)

I've only seen the recorded version and listened to the soundtrack but I don't get the hype. I hated the music and didn't enjoy the show at all and I usually love musicals. Each to their own but it isn't for me.

Tinytigertail · 12/09/2023 20:45

It's amazing. I've seen it a couple of times and wouldn't rule out a third time. The Soundtrack is my running buddy!

mummytothree87 · 12/09/2023 20:45

I'm taking my 16 year dd next year to see it in Edinburgh asshe's obsessed with the filmed version and can recite all the songs by heart 😂 she has no idea I've booked it though so can't wait to see her face.

WingedHermes · 12/09/2023 20:46

Can't wait to see it!

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/09/2023 20:46

I felt as though quite a lot of the rhymes were forced in for rhyming’s sake, and it definitely does downplay Alexander's involvement in the slave trade. I get why it does it, as it's not strictly narratively relevant, but it is hypocritical given the "your debts are paid 'cause you don't pay for labor” line.

Overall I enjoyed it, though probably not enough that I’d see it repeatedly.

ShowOfHands · 12/09/2023 20:47

We took DS to see it for his 10th birthday (he already loved it and knew it backwards). It was a complete surprise. We spent the weekend in London and walked past the theatre the night before and he made a wish that he could go and see it. Theatres had not long reopened post Covid and the ripple of joy and sheer gratitude as the house lights went down, was magical. DS cried, I cried.

I adore it. It's lyrically astonishing and executed brilliantly. I read Alexander Hamilton's biography before we went and it only added to my enjoyment.

We will see it on tour next year.

autienotnaughty · 12/09/2023 20:48

Loved it 😍

Screamingabdabz · 12/09/2023 20:52

I must’ve seen an entirely different play to the rest of the world who rave about it. Too long, dull stage set and repetitive songs. That teenage girls love this story which is essentially about a corrupt cheating disloyal boring accountant - and no strong females whatsoever - baffles me.

CatamaranViper · 12/09/2023 20:53

Ah I found it long and quite boring! I have no real interest in the founding fathers nor much knowledge on the subject so it was a bit... dull.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 12/09/2023 20:57

I loooooove it! Went for the second time earlier this year, sat in the second row and loved the (fake) flirting from Alexander and Burr! Went for drinks afterwards and the cast came in so I was a proper musical nerd and went to say hello and thank them for an awesome night - they were lovely! Just seen the guy who played Hamilton in Macbeth at the RSC, he is super yummy!

livingonpurpose · 12/09/2023 20:57

Love it! First saw it on Disney+ and couldn't stop watching it. Then bought the soundtrack and learnt it off by heart. Finally got to see it live in London in June with ds (also a fan who knows the soundtrack) and it was amazing (apart from the actor playing Angelica - didn't rate her at all). We went to see it for the second time last month and I'm having to stop myself from booking a third visit (which I think I'll fail at eventually).

I do love the original cast so much but enjoy seeing the London cast (second visit there had been a partial cast change and the new Angelica was much better!).

Sorrytomoan · 12/09/2023 21:04

The hamilton we saw was an understudy I think, can't find him anywhere.
The original cast are just amazing.

Pinkandgreentrousers · 12/09/2023 21:09

Which show did you watch? We saw Saturday matinée, I wondered if he was an understudy, I really enjoyed.

LinManuelMirandaIsAGenius · 12/09/2023 21:17

I promise I haven’t name changed for this thread! You can probably guess my feelings on it quite easily. We watched it first on Disney + when it came out. DD1 (13 at the time) and I loved it, DH hated it (hates almost all musicals).

We then started listening to it over and over (and over…) We can recite pretty much the whole thing. We do a mean “Guns and Ships” between us!

Finally saw it in London in October 2021. Best thing we’ve ever seen on stage, and our expectations were very high. Have also converted various family and friends to it, who all love it.

Have tickets to see it in Manchester next January. Can’t wait to see it again.

The original cast will always be best though. I mean, Daveed Diggs….!

And just in case you didn’t notice my username,

Lin Manuel Miranda Is A Genius….!

Oldandcobwebby · 12/09/2023 21:25

I thought I would hate it, having only previously heard bits on the radio. Watched the Disney+ film of it with DD (10) and we both loved it. We both blubbed, naturally.
