9/11 - what happened to the planes?

myyve · 12/09/2023 11:48

Thinking on from that awful day after the anniversary yesterday, one thought has come to mind.

What happened to the planes and those onboard, once they were flown into the twin towers? I know this probably does sound silly and I'm so sorry if it comes across as ignorant, but I truly do not know, and the internet doesn't mention anything, either..

Did they come to a crash landing afterwards? Or did they continue flying? What actually happened to the plane and those poor souls on board?

Are you 5 years old?

ShipSpace · 12/09/2023 14:32

You might have got some very different responses if you had said at the outset it was for an engineering course!

myyve · 12/09/2023 11:59

Correct, I have decently been given a case study in which I am researching further into these kinds of mass disasters. This one happened when I was very young, so of course I don't remember it. I apologise if this has come across inappropriate.

Don’t apologise for asking a genuine question, of course there is online footage of that awful day but if you don’t know where to look then ask away.

NotyouGuillermo · 12/09/2023 14:33

@myyve if you have access to Disney+ there’s a really moving documentary series called 9/11: 1 day in America. It was made by National Geographic, the 9/11 memorial museum and people who were there, and has footage from multiple different angles. It’s a harrowing watch, but may help with whatever it is you’re working on.

wayyour · 12/09/2023 14:34

I haven't asked it again. I am researching for my engineering course. I feel extremely vulnerable at the moment on this thread.

An aeronautical engineer?

Presumably you have had some teaching about how to do academic research, if you are in tertiary education?

The sorts of source material you can trust and rely on? What might be available to you which constitutes factual information?

I’m not an engineer but I would be seeking out the official reports by investigators as primary source material for what was discovered about what happened on impact, how and why the buildings collapsed. That would be acceptable information to cite.

Anything you’re told here is hearsay, opinion and not rigorously backed up by evidence, so is useless to you in this project. That is why people like me are baffled by your asking on Mumsnet what could be a very ghoulish question.

Do you have a tutor for your course? That would be the person with whom to discuss this if you need help understanding the material.

Just because your son knew doesn’t mean others will know though? If someone is asking a genuine question, what happened to the plane, why is that offensive? We should support people expanding their knowledge.

FastAndLast · 12/09/2023 14:36

Yeah I don’t think there’s many engineers hanging about on Mumsnet.

I'm obviously sorry for your loss but why did you open the thread when the title made the subject clear?

myyve · 12/09/2023 14:37

See. I knew by me answering that question it would open up more of a witch hunt.

I understand that there is upset at this post, and apologise profusely for that. It was not my intention. I am just trying to better my knowledge. It was a genuine query.

Yeah I don’t think there’s many engineers hanging about on Mumsnet.

The thing is I'm not an engineer. I am In VERY early stages of training to hopefully become something within that field. I started my course 6 days ago.

This is a fascinating thread.

The reason the OP is getting such aggressive responses is because it is contested history.

While most people believe 2 planes hit the twin towers, one hit the pentagon and one came down in Pennsylvania, there are a substantial minority of people who believe something different happened.

Questioning the mainstream account of 911 is considered disrespectful to those who died that day and by implication any question that asks "what happened" is disrespectful as it invites alternate explanations and further questioning.

Following the official narrative of 911 has become a tenet of faith of Western Democracy in the face of Ethnic Savagery.. For those who do not blindly believe, it is disrespectful to the millions who died as a consequence of the 911 narrative not to question.

WTF? Why on earth not?

CaveMum · 12/09/2023 14:38

It’s not an unreasonable question to want to know what happened to the remains of those involved.

2,977 people were murdered that day, plus the 19 highjackers.

So far only 1,649 victims have been able to be identified via DNA. Two people were identified just last week (the first positive IDs in almost 2 years) and there are around 1,000 human remains still held and yet to be identified.

Remains of 2 people killed in 9/11 attack on World Trade Center identified with DNA testing

New York City's medical examiner has now been able to link remains to 1,649 World Trade Center victims, a painstaking process that relies on leading-edge DNA sequencing techniques.

Me and my nephew are in Ireland. I learned about it in school, as did he. Maybe it’s just not taught in your area?

Maybe not, there was nothing about it in their primary. My eldest gave up history but my youngest is currently doing it for the junior cycle. I know as of yesterday when I asked my youngest about it that it hasn't been mentioned, but I'll check out the history book later.

But looking at this online it says this is what's covered for the junior cycle.

That really isn’t the reason that the OP is being flamed, it was just a chance for you to air a conspiracy theory that not one other poster has even alluded to.

Don’t apologise again OP. I highly doubt you have upset or offended anyone here, if you have they should step away from the internet in general. I hope somewhere amongst this mess you’ve understood the answer to what you were originally asking.

@myyve

OMG re-read what you have asked! Seriously a great big plane flies into a building at speed and you ASK what happened to the planes! Rethink as a missile loaded with fuel (with people on board) at speed firing into a building.

Fire, explosions, death, dust, devastation.

Or perhaps in Barbie land they go through the building and emerge the other side and land quietly in a field somewhere and the people all get off without a scratch!

How original of you 78 pages in....
