Dehydration causing UTI symptoms?

anonuser19 · 12/09/2023 10:16

I had a UTI a few weeks ago which I think cleared with antibiotics. Then I had thrush which again I think cleared with treatment.

However, this morning after going to the loo I’ve got this really uncomfortable feeling again, afterwards.

I don’t think it can be a UTI, and I am wondering if it’s now dehydration? I hardly drink any water, and my wee this morning was basically orange (sorry TMI probably).

Can dehydration cause this uncomfortable feeling? It’s so horrible having it pretty much all of the time 😢

Yes, I can feel pinching in the bladder when I’m dehydrated and have to wee few drops very often

MagpiePi · 12/09/2023 10:19

Yes it can. It gets more acidic as it is concentrated which can irritate your bladder/urethra.

@xogossipgirlxo it’s so horrible isn’t it!

Dehydration also makes you much more prone to UTIs

OurChristmasMiracle · 12/09/2023 10:20

Yes, it can cause that feeling. I would drink plenty of fluids and hopefully it will pass.

thrush is actually quite common after antibiotics

Dehydration last weekend has triggered a mild UTI for me - hoping I can just flush it out.

xogossipgirlxo · 12/09/2023 10:23

@anonuser19 it really is, when I realised what these symptoms mean, I understood how dehydrated I was as a child😵‍💫

My dh ended up in hospital with a bad UTI because he never would drink anything like enough. I used to tell him, but until the docs told him he wouldn’t listen!!

He had to learn the hard way.

OP, get a pint of water down you asap - in e.g. tea or squash if that’s what you prefer - , it doesn’t have to be plain water.

I am wondering if I’ve given myself another UTI, urghhh.

Going to drink a load of water/squash and also do a course of cystitis sachets as they always help relieve symptoms.

PS the cystitis sachets you can buy in the supermarket are brilliant - IME anyway. But you need a lot of fluids too.

Iliketulips · 12/09/2023 10:36

Hope you feel better soon, OP. Sounds like you need to be get into the habit of regularly drinking water and other fluids.

I've got into the habit of drinking water first thing in the morning (ie before I fill myself up with food), before I even put the kettle on. Also, always have some on the table at mealtimes and make a point of sipping some every so often. Also, take some to bed and if I go to toilet in the night, I always have about 3 sips.

anonuser19 · 12/09/2023 10:38

Thank you @Iliketulips

Yes, my water intake is terrible. I live off Diet Coke, the odd glass of squash, one latte a day and sometimes a cup of tea. It’s so bad.

Squash is okay though isn’t it to drink?

Yes, just get the fluid in somehow.
