Audio recording in garden

Ongoing harassment from neighbours. They have now installed a CCTC camera pointing into their garden but which has sound recording and is positioned right beside our fence so will record our private conversations.
Is there anything we can do about this?

Swear, swear and swear some more. Don’t talk about them at all. Nothing wrong with swearing in your own garden!

DisorganisedParent · 11/09/2023 20:42

Talk about them but in abstract terms:

Did you see the government are changing the laws on surveillance? It's looking like a good way to stop nosey cunts looking into people's gardens... etc

hotchocdrinker · 11/09/2023 21:26

I'd be inclined to put some sort of hook on your fence, and buy a cheap bluetooth speaker you can hang on it. You can play white noise when you're out in the garden. If the speaker is close to the camera than you are, it might drown out your conversation. Or you could play heavy metal music...!

ClusterFukt · 11/09/2023 21:30

Start wailing Kate Bush bangers at the top of your voice every time you go in the garden.

Great idea!

Lol great ideas, esp the white noise one!
I was kinda meaning is there anything I can do legally?

How do you know it has sound recording?

Id do this.

purpleme12 · 12/09/2023 00:50

I don't believe that there's anything you can do, no

The Office of the Information Commissioner has advice on its website about this.

bossybloss · 12/09/2023 01:01

I would definitely be playing white noise or other annoying sounds even when I am not in the garden!

AutumnCrow · 12/09/2023 01:05

'If you ask a domestic CCTV user for copies of footage that captures your image or voice and they refuse, you can complain to us. We can write to the person and ask them to provide you with the footage. That is the extent of the action we can take.'

This is probably your best bet legally ^^ not least because it's free and because it'll piss them off. But it'll piss you off too, and start taking over your thoughts. Anyway read all the advice on the ICO page; and I think the white noise suggestion earlier on the thread is bloody great tbh.

Domestic CCTV systems

Some users of domestic CCTV systems need to comply with data protection laws. This depends on what their cameras can see. Find out about your rights if you are filmed on someone’s domestic CCTV system.

Put lots of wind chimes up in that end of the garden

So, pretty pointless then.

This is genius

Somewhereovertherainbowweighapie · 12/09/2023 03:17

I vote for windchimes.

TheBewilderedGoblin · 12/09/2023 03:27

No help, but I love your user name @Jeelypieces20storeys and totally get the reference

Ooh, yes. Those are so fucking annoying. Definitely put them up near the device. The noisier the better. And if they're off pitch (and won't bother you) that would be the BEST!

Somewhereovertherainbowweighapie · 12/09/2023 03:52

Off pitch? Do you mean the cheap clangy one’s because that is what I was picturing. Imagine listening to the recording with that noise.

Somewhereovertherainbowweighapie · 12/09/2023 03:52

I would also consider getting cameras of your own. To protect your windchimes.

Jeelypieces20storeys · 12/09/2023 08:52

Just noticed she has taken her own wind chimes down as they obviously .ust be triggering the audio on the camera ....
3 guesses what I'm away to buy!! Thank you for the genius suggestion!!!

I wouldn't be talking about anything private where something who is harassing me is anyway, cameras or no cameras

Jeelypieces20storeys · 12/09/2023 11:48

I looked up the make and model which is why I know it has sound recording

OP posts:
Jeelypieces20storeys · 12/09/2023 11:49

I would count any conversation between myself and my son as private!
