Hi, does anyone know the dates of the year 10 GCSE for 2024? Do they sit them the same time as year 11?

There aren't special y10 GCSEs, just GCSEs.
So if your DC is sitting a GCSE in y10, just look at the exam board timetable.

FourEyesGood · 11/09/2023 17:09

There are no such things as Year 10 GCSEs. If your Y10 child is sitting a GCSE in 2024, they’ll be in the same exam sessions as the Year 11 students.

I don’t know anything about it. I was under the impression they are partial gcse, or have I got this wrong?
So the exams should be finished by 19th of June by that case.

My daughter did Eng lit GCSE in year 10, except they didn’t as it was during covid and no exams. I assume she would have done it at the same time as the year 11s had she have sat the exam. School have now stopped this and they do EnG lit at the same time as all other GCSEs.

catndogslife · 11/09/2023 17:20

Are you in England or Wales OP?
If you are in England there is no such thing as a partial GCSE and you just look at the dates on the GCSE timetable.
If you are in Wales, then they still have a modular system where some exams are sat in Y10. These will usually be Paper 1 for each subject.

GreenAventurinee · 11/09/2023 17:24

I’m in wales. Will these be finished at the same time as all other gcse? I have stupidly booked a holiday for the 22nd June. Assumed they are all finished in May!

What subject is it? Short course RE perhaps? Board would be WJEC?

TeenDivided · 11/09/2023 17:43

22nd June will be fine unless the contingency day is needed for whatever your DC is sitting for some reason (highly unlikely).
Be much more careful for y11 though!

TeenDivided · 11/09/2023 17:44

@catndogslife I think RE short course might count as a 'partial GCSE' as it is only 0.5.

GreenAventurinee · 11/09/2023 17:45

Looking at that they all will be done by the 19th. They’ve not said what exams exactly. Im assuming English/maths.

That said OP, it looks as if you are booking a term time holiday in y10 which isn't necessarily the best thing to be doing as they will miss content that won't be retaught. But presumably you have your reasons.

catndogslife · 11/09/2023 18:19

@TeenDivided Yes I believe that option still exists in England. dds school only offered the full GCSE though.

MerryMarigold · 11/09/2023 18:21

Just ask the school exam officer orthe HOY

BoohooWoohoo · 11/09/2023 18:23

You might want to ask school when year 10 mocks are because I would assume that there will be some sort of end of year 10 mock exams.

CeeJay81 · 11/09/2023 18:44

Also in Wales and wondering the same. Going to ring school to find out. Will have a look at that link too. Thanks.

indie12345 · 25/09/2023 17:23

Isn't it best to ask the school?

Kids at my sons school take their gcse ethics (r.e) exam in year 10. Its a bit of a noddy gcse but it gives them practice for the proper ones in year 11. They take them at the same time as the year 11s are taking their gcses.

DC school did half the triple science exams 40% each subject - assume combined was same but don't know.

RS, one of the history one but in DC school it varies which is done Y10 and Y11 and they all do the same topics in a year. Some do geography paper DC didn't.

Maths actually wasn't year 10 at their school.

Eng lit GCSE was all done and finished in Y10.

It really does seem to vary what school does what - but if it's outside exam period - which is the main GCSE one - should be fine. The contingency date may matter less as some in DS year missed y10 exams due to covid etc and just had to do them in Y11 but you do need to check with school exam officer.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 25/09/2023 18:28

We’re in Wales too. Ds did all of his English lit, half of the triple science papers and the science practicals, half of the maths and half of his Welsh lit in year 10.

He’s got an assessed English presentation this week and he’ll do the rest of his maths in November of year 11, some English language in January and the rest in May / June of year 11.

You need to be super careful about booking holidays during years 10 and 11 in Wales!! It’s also nice to be around for results day in August.
