Is it worth a 20 mile drive for two adults? Is there lots to see or not much? Any input appreciated!

Lots to see?
we took the kids, they enjoyed the monkeys.

Freepo · 10/09/2023 21:07

Not really just for adults, unless you’re really into monkeys. It’s better for kids I think.

@sorbets I enjoyed it, but it's not a long walk round, it's an hour not all day visit.

It’s worth 20 miles for sure. That’s not that far. We drove 34 miles to it last week.

It's not big but the monkeys are fun. You can make a day of it by visiting Trentham Gardens next door, it's nice there. Nice shops too, like a little village.

The monkey forest isn't enough for a day out for 2 adults in my opinion and the cafe food isn't up to much. However, I recently discovered Trentham shopping village and garden centre about 5 mins down the road and I like a look around there. There's better places to eat for a start! There's also Trentham gardens but you pay seperately to visit there. I've only done those once for the Christmas lights. They were nice but I wouldn't go again.

Wrapunzel · 10/09/2023 21:39

Yes, I'd agree worth it, half a day

BeverleyMacker · 10/09/2023 22:28

It's really good. Not an all day thing but Trentham garden centre is worth a visit too.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 10/09/2023 22:34

Garden centre and village shops tend to be overpriced for what is there, you’ll kill a few hours wandering but personally I’d head for the local factory shops instead like Emma Bridgewater, Moorland Pottery and you’re a stones throw from world of Wedgwood at Barlaston for lunch.

Haven’t been into the monkey forest for a while, but I did enjoy it. Also look up Peak Wildlife Park, bit further up the road but it’s FABULOUS, you can walk through the penguin enclosures and they now have polar bears! Added bonus is Leek is a beautiful little town for a walk around the antique shops and lunch.

Like PP, definitely not a day of a job, but Trentham gardens etc, worth tying up both in a day
