Saturday afternoon parking in Stratford Upon Avon on a Saturday?

Hi all - seeking thoughts of the MN hive mind.

Driving to Stratford to see the RSC on a Saturday afternoon and wondering if we would be better to park in the park and ride and get the train in, or try to park in the town centre.

Is parking in the centre on a Saturday a total nightmare? I realise that the park and ride/train option would be cheaper but it's not so much that (only about £4 cheaper anyway, looking at possible car parks), more will we be able to park in the centre?

The other factor is that DD whom I am going with struggles with walking a long way - looks as tho the station is about a mile from the theatre which might be a bit of a challenge.

Anyone with great local knowledge able to advise? Could I book parking in a very close car park? TIA.

There's a big car park on the other side of the river from the theatre. I've always managed to park there when I have been. Also plenty of parking by the leisure centre which is short walk from theatre

There is a large carpark on the opposite side of the river to the theatre, past the yacht club.

Multi storey just by the river (Bridge St?) is usually fine. Or you can park in the large Crown Plaza hotel car park - you just need to go in and pay at reception. Then less than 5 mins walk to the theatre.

You’ll be fine at Bridgefoot multi-storey.

We normally do the Bridgeway multi storey. That's an easy walk to the theatre. Only once we couldn't park there on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend when Stratford was rammed and we ended up at the Leisure Centre one which was fine.

As mentioned already, follow signs for the butterfly museum plenty of space there.

however do not underestimate how busy it can be in central stratford. Give yourself plenty of time and then another hour on top so not to stress yourself out.

Yep bridge street multi-storey (think it is called bridge foot). Have never not been able to park there. V short walk to RSC. As pp have mentioned the traffic getting into Stratford will be the worst bit. Have a great time!

Brilliant thanks all. It was Bridgefoot (or whatever it is called! map not clear!) that I was looking at. I mean it will be about £9 but the train and park and ride will be about £4.50 so.

Yes will allow plenty of time - planning to leave as soon as DD finished work at 1pm and it's less than two hours' drive. Traffic in Stratford itself tho was another concern wrt central parking.
