Musty smell on toddler hair

The last few days I've noticed that my toddler's hair has a musty smell when it's wet. It doesn't smell at all (in fact it smells lovely) when it's dry. This is the same if she's damp due to sweating or even after just having had her hair washed, although I'd say it's milder when washed maybe due to there being a shampoo scent too.
There's no sign of any flaking/cradle cap or any rash or irritation on her scalp.
Any ideas? Could this just be because her scalp has been damp more than often lately due to the weather? She has mid thickness (not v thick) curly hair but loose curls not very tight ringlets (Caucasian hair)

Does the towel you used to rub her hair dry need a wash?

No good question but they are fresh out today and it was still there this evening.
I'll see how it goes as the temperature changes - it could be just how sweaty she's been!

I'm also going to try a cradle cap shampoo just to see if it helps

My eldest has a horrible smelling head. Daily hair wash with head and shoulders
sorts it.

My 9 year old has always had this. I've tried all sorts but his head still smells yeasty. Can't see anything on his scalp and he jas no dandruff. God knows what it is. It will literally smell straight after washing once it's dry.

Well I found a weird sore on her scalp tonight so I'm guessing maybe a fungal thing. Going to the pharmacy tomorrow to discuss...
