If you were drinking a glass of water and passed out with a mouth full of said water, and landed horizontally, would you drown?

Bloody hell
are you that bored

StaySpicy · 10/09/2023 18:08

I'm guessing the muscles would relax as you went down so the water would dribble out.

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2023 18:10

I would say not , but it's made me think

HeDoesntWannaBangYouSomebodyHangYou · 10/09/2023 18:15

Do you have anxiety OP if you don't mind me asking?

Annaishere · 10/09/2023 18:16

Yeah maybe

Jojobees · 10/09/2023 18:17

No you wouldn’t drown. My son has no swallow reflex so even with thickened fluids some still gets into his lungs. He doesn’t drown he coughs.
You would come too, cough and possibly vomit. Although the swallow reflex is something still occurring when unconscious so possibly you’d just swallow it.

mynameiscalypso · 10/09/2023 18:18

I've always assumed that this (ie either swallowing or getting rid of the water in your mouth) is the kind of thing that the body would do automatically - it's quite good at not letting you die.

I am now envisaging the event like a very slow-motion scene in a Tarantino film.

A woman's pony tail swishes around as her face comes into the picture, moving slowly down the frame diagonally backwards. As her eyes pass in view they slowly blink shut and droplets of water start to stream out of mouth, ruby red lips not yet showing any a trace of blueness.

The camera cuts to the floor and initially all one sees is a short pile cream carpet which gradually dims as the shadow of the woman's body descends blocking more and more light in just a few milliseconds. Her head hits the carpet, bounces a little too much for everyone's comfort - the wonders of CGI - as the remaining water trickles out of her mouth, across the carpet, down the steps and through the hallway where it then slowly drip, drip, drips onto the pavement below.

$Do you have anxiety OP if you don't mind me asking?*

No! Do you never think about random things?

You would come too, cough and possibly vomit.

well that’s taken things to a different level!!!!

You would come too, cough and possibly vomit.

But then you could choke on the vomit...

Jojobees · 10/09/2023 19:28

You’ve come round from fainting, you e coughed and potentially vomited. Not many conscious people choke on vomit.

It was the ‘coming’ I was most surprised about!

JaneJeffer · 10/09/2023 19:41

I got your thinking on that. I like the way your mind works, I often have strange thoughts like this.
