Help please - carpet cleaning gone wrong

I hired a carpet cleaner on Friday to give the living room carpet a clean. Didn't set it up right and ended up spilling the diluted cleaning fluid all over the carpet. Tried to dry it up with towels and then the cleaner itself but clearly wasn't wholly successful. Some of the carpet is still damp and is smelling a bit. I've had the windows open the entire weekend to air the room out but it's still a bit damp.

Are there any magic tricks I should know to help it dry out or to get rid of the smell? Or have I completely fucked it?

Is it a wool carpet? It'll probably just take time to dry out thoroughly. How did you use towels to try to dry it up? Ime standing on them and using your bodyweight to press the water out of the carpet works best. Repeat until it's as dry as possible. If the carpet still smells once it's dry, use an enzyme based pet smell remover as directed and the smell should go.

I overwet a carpet once cleaning it. It absolutely stunk and I had to hire a dehumidifier for a few days to a accelerate the drying out. Smell did go once dry

Thanks both, I'll try the towels again and hope they work 🤞🏼

Thank your lucky stars you didn't make my mistake of spilling undiluted cleaner on your carpet. Turned it bright orange!

Had to have the whole living carpet replaced last weekend.

But yes it will dry out. Perfect conditions in this heat.
