Looking to replace my Samsung with another Samsung. I still have 18months to run on my phone contract (business) but don't want to upgrade through them because it will increase the contract length to 3yrs. So I want a sim free phone. Are refurbed phones any good? Would I be fuelling the mobile phone theft crime wave? Any other thoughts or advice most welcome.

I've only ever bought refurbed phones for DD, all been fine. Lots of online sites like Music Magpie, have a look around at best price for the one you want.

I bought refurbished phones for my dc on Music Magpie when they started asking for iPhones.

Go for good/very good condition and buy the latest model you can afford.

My dc's have had their phones for well over a year and they're still going strong despite the daily battering they get.

I've bought a refurbished one from giff gaff or Motorola. It was one of the two I can't remember which one. It was fine.

I have bought 3 from Back Market as recommended on moneysavingexpert website. The one I bought for DD stopped working so I sent it back and was given a new one within 7 days. Really good service. I have had my refurbished phone for 2 years now and it's still a brilliant phone with excellent charge. Would definitely recommend Back Market.

Envirophone is great, twelve months warranty. Mine hasn't got a mark on it

I bought my dad a refurbed phone from Envirofone. It arrived in a box with a charger and worked perfectly. He was a low user of it but there were no issues at all. Would recommend.

Thanks everyone, that's excellent advice and has put my mind at rest. I'm getting the hard sell from my current provider and I really don't appreciate it, especially as they refuse to email me the information discussed on the phone regarding how much everything is going to cost. Buying second hand definitely seems to be the way forward 🙂

DS got an S21 on ebay recently.
I and friend in last 5 months both got Samsung S22, hers from Magpie, mine from ebay.
All of us happy so far.

I can't fathom getting a new phone. 4 figure cost. Wow.

I’ve used music magpie multiple times for me and both DSs, and recently used Back Market. I’ve never had a problem with them.

Refurbished phones can be a great choice for replacing your Samsung without extending your contract. When purchased from a trusted seller, they are inspected, repaired, and tested to work like new, often with a warranty included. Buying refurbished is also environmentally friendly, as it reduces electronic waste. To avoid any concerns about theft, stick to reputable sellers who verify the origin of their devices.
