Wandering cat..

I have a wandering cat. I'm perfectly happy with this-so not looking for solutions! What i'm wondering is if anyone can explain something. She quite often disappears for 3 days and comes back smelling of the woods and outside (we live in the country) so I don't THINK she's two timing me. She always comes back in the early morning, has some food, then goes outside and stomps about shouting really really loudly for about 30 minutes. I don't think I've ever heard a cat making so much noise-she literally wakes the neighbours! Then she comes in again and goes to sleep. We like to think she's telling everyone about her adventures! But does anyone know what she's actually doing?

Mine's not a wanderer, she doesn't even leave the garden even though nothing is stopping her. She too however loves a good wailing and shrieking session, usually in the evening. Freaked me out when I first got her (she is a rescue), as I had never seen a cat parading around shrieking, I thought there was something wrong.

I've come to the conclusion she is just broadcasting her learnings from the day and letting everyone know she is alert and active. She usually has a little patrol of the house before the shrieking begins.

We have a wanderer. In the summer we only know she's still alive because we have a Sureflap Connect catflap, which has an app to record the coming in for food at 2 am. I think they just sleep in 'the bushes' and hunt.

I don't know if it was her or one of the other ones who spent several hours last night yowling at an owl who seemed to be taunting them.

@Saverage I'm glad mine is not alone! I asked the vet about it and she just shrugged and said "She's a cat-who knows!"

This is brilliant! Love cats and their quirks. Unfortunately DH won’t entertain the idea of getting one.

I think your cat probably just had an amazing time and wants to let you all know! Or she’s shouting back to her friends in the woods and letting them know she’s home safe?!

How funny.
One of mine is absent a lot at the moment but always comes home for food, shouts a lot, demands love and fuss and then buggers off again. She'll be back indoors when the weather changes.

OK-she's now started another round of shouting! I reckon it's OK because it's 10.35 and that seems a reasonable hour even on a Sunday. At 5.30 I was trying to shush her and distract her with Dreamies......
