DLA asking for birth certificate

I applied for dla for DS. I received a letter last week saying they have got my claim. Then this morning I received another letter saying I need to send his birth certificate to them. Has anybody else had this? I have googled but I can’t see anything about it. I would phone them but last time it took me and hour and half to get through

Why can't you just send it? Of course they need ID

@Doggymummar Obviously I am going to I just wanted to see if anyone knew what it meant as it didn’t mention anything about sending it with the original form

It happens to quite a few claimants, I don’t think I had to send my son’s though.
There is a good group on Facebook about children’s DLA, lots of questions are asked on there.

My daughter gets Dla and they never once asked for birth certificate.

You most likely will have either failed security during the call or there was insufficient information on the system to complete security. Nothing to worry about.

I have never had to send my son,s birth certiificate off but apparently they do ask sometimes.

I received 2 letters this morning. One to confirm they have received my claim and the second requesting my sons birth certificate.

I have provided my Child Benefit details for an ID check, but I don’t see the problem in them requesting a birth certificate. Wouldn’t surprise me if some people try to defraud the system by claiming for a child that doesn’t exist or isn’t in their care.

That just wouldn’t happen with DLA. It’s an extra security check yes, but children are issued with their national insurance number now, they absolutely know if the child exists or not.

Think it's If you're child is under a certain age, they need proof of them being real, especially if they have no national insurance number

Hiya, just wanted to ask if there is any update since as it’s been 4 months since your post? I just applied for DLA for my son and got a letter also asking for birth certificate. Did you get this awarded? How long did you have to wait, thank you.

Hiya, do they ask to see your child like they do for adults receiving benefits or DLA? Also is there a reason they don’t ask for child benefit details but a birth certificate insteas

I had to send my childs birth certificate for DLA but have not had it back yet. It's been over 3 weeks. How long does this normally take to get it back please? I phoned them, they just said to wait a bit longer, then phone back in few weeks for a update.

have you received the birth certificate back yet? I sent my sons off about 6wks ago and still haven’t got it back
