How early is too early to let your DC out to play?

My whole house (except one child who would sleep through a helicopter landing on the roof) was woken up today by neighbours children having a water fight (and being shouted at for touching the hose) at 7:50am!! On a Saturday!
I would never dream of letting the kids be loud that early on a weekend, I would say no earlier than 9, what time would you say is acceptable?

You'll probably get lots of varied answers but, for me, 7.30am during the week. 9am in the weekend. I actually don't remember my kids ever being out as early as 7.30, but I think that would be tolerable. I'd be okay with 8.30 on a Saturday too, but definitely 9am on Sunday.

8 am weekday

9 am weekend

Same for lawnmowers!

9am, 10 on a Sunday. Nobody needs to wake up to the sound of other people's kids shrieking!

On a weekend like this as a one off I wouldn't object to an early start as long as it wasn't both days. It's too hot for them to go out this afternoon. I think we are going to have to adapt our lives to this now and operate at the cooler times of day and sleep or rest in the heat.

My kids are allowed out from 8 on a Saturday and 10 on a Sunday - assuming they've surfaced by then.

itsgettingweird · 09/09/2023 10:42

7.50am on a Saturday isn't as shocking to me as it appears to you!

Wouldn't bother me tbh. I've just always made sure I've sorted out our living situation to not allow how others choose to live bother me 🤷‍♀️

Wish you lot would speak to my neighbours whose kids are out from 7 any day of the week.

Although it’s kind of irrelevant as we’ve all been woken by other neighbour’s dog barking from 6 anyway

Gaaaaaah

There were kids out bike ride by me at 7.30am this morning. It’s the last warm weekend of the year. Let them play out.

goingtotown · 09/09/2023 10:53

This heatwave won't last for much longer, stop moaning & let them have fun.

Outnumberedbyboys2 · 09/09/2023 10:56

I agree that as a one off, basically 8am really isn't that bad. If it was every weekend that would be different.

Mouthfulofquiz · 09/09/2023 10:59

I bring mine in at 19:30 if playing football in the garden as the thudding of the ball might annoy a couple of sets of neighbours with small kids. I also don’t let them play football for more than an hour at a time. In the morning they are allowed to potter about in the garden from 08:30. Noisy games from 09:30 onwards.

aSofaNearYou · 09/09/2023 12:04

I think 9am is a good time to allow them to be loud, and before 8 is really taking the piss. It's not hard to say they can go outside but can't be running around screaming that early.

WimpoleHat · 09/09/2023 12:06

I’d say 8.30/9 too. Before 8 is certainly anti social at the weekend.

NuffSaidSam · 09/09/2023 12:11

They can go out after about 7am, but I'd make sure it was quiet until at least 8am.

I think 10am is ridiculous! And I love a lie-in.

Garlicbreadisonfire · 09/09/2023 15:13

9am is the rule in our House, a little later on Weekends!

coxesorangepippin · 09/09/2023 15:15

It's 9 chez nous

But I do sometimes feel like letting the kids loose outside at 6am, given how noisy our neighbors have been recently

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 09/09/2023 15:30

IMO the rule for any non essential noise (DIY, lawnmowers, noisy outdoor play) is 8am weekdays, 9am Saturdays and 10am Sundays.
