How’s your Friday going so far? It’s so hot & not in a good way - humid. I’m suffering with sinus headaches & this weather isn’t helping. Doing pizzas for tea later. I have a sourdough one with ham, mushroom & mascarpone. DH has pepperoni. I may have a glass of Chenin Blanc on the go!
I got my car back from the garage today. They have had it for 3 weeks & it’s eventually fixed! The accident was back in October & we couldn’t afford to get it repaired when they offered a date in December. Because it’s taken so long, they waived the excess charge of £350. I’ve had a Vauxhall Corsa as a courtesy car. Took a while to get used to but I actually quite liked it, especially the reverse sensors!!
A week ago, DH & I were in London to celebrate a big birthday. We had 3 nights away & it was fab. Already planning the next break, probably for our wedding anniversary in May. We saw a couple of West End shows. If you get the chance to go to “ Tina” ( the Tina Turner story) grab it with both hands! It was absolutely phenomenal! The leading lady was off the chart talented. At one point I cried because it was so good. We also saw Back To The Future which was great fun with very good special effects, especially at the end.
DD14 is away, back tomorrow, so we’re enjoying the final 24 hours of peace! Tomorrow is DM’s birthday & we’re having an Indian takeaway. DBro & DSis in Law will be joining us. DD is probably having cheesy chips. Not very adventurous!

DH is off to play football - he's no sportsman and football is not his thing but it's a social event so he's going anyway. Hope he doesn't do himself an injury. I will be sorting things out for a training course I'm teaching tomorrow and watching some crap TV. Recommendations appreciated.

Tonight1 · 08/09/2023 18:42

Literally slouching on the settee with the ice pack tucked under my chin (don't care if I get a bit wet) and both hands holding my phone

devildeepbluesea · 08/09/2023 18:44

Nice glass of vino, some Thai crackers. DDog and I are wilting gently waiting for the rugby World Cup opener. DD with her dad so just me to cater for, am having homemade mushroom, chickpea and spinach curry with homemade naan bread. First time I’ve ever successfully made naan bread and it. Is. Divine.

Echobelly · 08/09/2023 18:45

I've just put some lentils on to make Dhaal for dinner having done washing up and cleaned kitchen a bit, I think everyone in the family is now on their computers. Kids came home from school boiling earlier and have changed into shorts, our cat appears to be collapsed in a comical fashion on the trampoline in the garden!

I've slept terribly this week and had a late night last night so am looking forward to/hoping for a good, long solid sleep tonight with an early bedtime.

Hazey19 · 08/09/2023 18:48

I’ve just made lentil Dhaal too, I loved it, kids not so much. We just saw our cat chasing a fox through the garden which was surprising, DH doing the washing up, one DS now back on his computer another DS randomly doing sprints up and down the garden. I’m so glad it’s Friday ❤️

mikado1 · 08/09/2023 18:48

Feeling horrendous on the couch and hoping to do absolutely zero between now and an early bed. Stomach really queasy plus cramps.. perhaps a bug. PITA but TGIF at least!

RabbitsRock · 08/09/2023 18:51

DM’s birthday isn’t tomorrow, it’s Sunday!

@Hazey19 - daahl one of the few things everyone in the family agrees on. In fact may be more dishes we can all eat soon, as kids seem to be developing more tolerance for slightly spicy stuff.

Whatsoccuringthen · 08/09/2023 19:09

Not in uk, warm but overcast weather, had a yearning for a crappy kiddy tea, so spent too much at the shop that sells British products and had potato smiley faces and chicken kievs for dinner with Vimto (reminiscent of my 80’s childhood) Dd, 5, loved it as she so rarely eats food like this.
Dd isn’t back at school yet, so we made pancakes and took the dog in the woods today, made cupcakes in the afternoon and read lots of new books. Dh came home and jumped on the trampoline with her for a bit and has now taken her to bed (his day today)
I’m excited to watch Desperate housewives & The Kardashians (I know, I know) on Disney plus later, with some nachos and dips.
Tomorrow it’s raining, we’ll take Dd to an indoor pancake place for breakfast, play games inside, have a movie night and she’s asked me to make spag bol (a quiet, not much to do day)
Sunday looks sunny and hot again, will either go on a play date with friends (and have lunch and bubbles) or go with Dh and Dd on a boat trip to an island and have lunch and take Dds net and body board.

RabbitsRock · 08/09/2023 19:32

Whatsoccurringthen that sounds blissful - wish my DD was still little. She’s 14 & stroppy isn’t the word!

WFH and finished at 18:30 after an 8 am start- shattered! Had 2 very large icy G&T's for the start of the weekend and now have a glass of wine waiting for our takeaway to come (Turkish food- love it!)
Adult DS walked in from his semi manual job at 5.30pm boiling hot and feeling very grubby- went straight for a shower- he is also shattered so chilling now - he's not going out too tired!
Poor DH has been ill all week - he is not a 'dressing gown of doom guy' at all so he must feel incredibly rough. Has been off work all week- I think he has covid but keeps testing negative- hate to say it @mikado1 but that is how he started with it a week ago so look after yourself.
We've nothing planned other than pottering about this weekend - and looking forward to not getting up at 6.30 am tomorrow.
New Gogglebox is on at 9 so I'll be watching that - otherwise on here and youtube for tunes later.

ASGIRC · 08/09/2023 19:52

Had a bit of a scare this morning, and went to the local EPU to check everything was ok. It was and the bean is alive and well.
Then nearly booked a lat minute flight to the Uk to join some friends for the weekend, but was talked out of that particular ledge by the friends, urging me to be sensible.
The came to work, which can only be described as a shit show on wheels (typical for a Friday evening, really!) and Im really ready for bed and a chill weekend ahead!!!

(I know it sounds like a horrible day, but it wasnt! LOL)

FatandRoundBouncingontheGround · 08/09/2023 20:00

Just cooked salmon, potatoes and veg for tea. Poured a G and T. Now in my arm chair, about to pick up my knitting. Youngest DC is with us watching "Jack sucks at geography" (YouTube channel). 6th former DS has taken himself back upstairs to play computer games with his mate. Uni DS is entering his last weekend at home and has gone off for a walk to talk to his girlfriend. Dog is laying flat on the coolest floor he can find. DH is strumming his guitar and heading off to the pub shortly. Uni DS has just come in and tells me he has walked 34,000 steps today! He loves a long walk, but that is very unusual - he walked up to the shops earlier to get his phone repaired.

WhycantIkeepthisbloodyplantalive · 08/09/2023 20:04

Teenage DD, toddler DS and their cousin are currently running around the living room with pillows, alternating between throwing them at each other and Jackie chan-Ing them like nunchucks. Hysterical laughter from all of them.

Husband is in the kitchen cooking a Duck crown, new potato's, asparagus and broccoli with a plumb Jus.

I am lying lazily on the sofa amidst the chaos Waiting to watch a film with everybody after dinner (in my defence, I have been non-stop today).

ManchesterLu · 08/09/2023 20:10

Watching the rugby on the TV, then will chill with a book for the rest of the evening until bed. DP next door having some drinks, perfect.

TheScottishPlay · 08/09/2023 20:13

Last day of annual leave today. Spent time in the garden and did some batch cooking despite the heat! Now reading and enjoying Scotland's 2 goal lead over Cyprus. DH on a long shift so won't be back 'til later.
DS moved back to his uni city on Monday. We're going to drop the rest of his stuff off on Sunday, so been in contact with him a fair bit today getting what he wants together.

afaloren · 08/09/2023 20:19

I’ve worked and eaten most of a bag of Haribo, now waiting for DH to cook pizzas for tea. How healthy! Looking forward to the Masterchef finale.

Tarkan · 08/09/2023 20:29

It's just me and DC2 (and 3 DDogs) at home right now. I had a lovely bath earlier then a lie down in my room to cool down after as our living room was roasting. I've just got over a bout of Covid so it was nice to pamper myself tonight and actually feel human again. I'm now watching the rugby with a big mug of (decaf) coffee.

DC1 is at work but finishes at half past and should be home about 10 minutes after that so we'll all have dinner then. Just having pizza tonight.

DH is working until quite late. He wasn't meant to be working tonight but a workmate is off with Covid so he swapped his shifts so he could be off this weekend.

DB and DSIL are going to be visiting my DPs this weekend so we're going over there to see them tomorrow. DB was 40 last month but DSIL couldn't get the time off work for them to come visit until this weekend so we'll all be going out for a nice meal tomorrow night as a belated celebration.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 08/09/2023 21:19

Just finished work and picked the kids up. I'm so hot, I feel like I'm sat on the sun. Our fan has broke and the neighbours are shouting outside so get to listen to that in the hope I cool down.

PetiteNasturtium · 08/09/2023 22:00

I went for an early morning hike, but through woodland so was cool with three women friends for about 3 hours then had a light lunch out with them. Had a nap in the afternoon and did about 30 mins of chores. Then DH and I went out for a curry. Now sat in the garden on MN while he reads the paper online.
