What's the worst birthday present your OH has bought you

justasking111 · 08/09/2023 10:12

I've just asked my OH politely to return my birthday present. He sulked a bit but will do. It's the first time I have done this.

So am I alone?

Pirate boots. Knee high, (fake) black leather, with a massive turned down bit at the top and laced all up the back. I think those were a Christmas present.

Worst birthday present was a cooking implement with which he expected me to shop for, prep and cook my own birthday dinner.

A car air freshener- ex now

Gowlett · 08/09/2023 20:34

A FitBit. Ughhh! Hate when men gift tech they like.

Foggyfoggyfoggy · 08/09/2023 20:58

I genuinely can't remember my first dh ever buying me a gift... Even on my 21st when our first dc was 4 months old. Nothing.. He also declared he was too skint for us to go out.. Went out with my best mate instead. He wasn't amused as he was male..

That's what I got this morning. He thinks that they're the dogs bollox. Checks the app every evening and reads it out. It was in the post by 11am back to Amazon. They love tech. I've had phones I didn't want or need as well. 😡

Perfume (maybe a Hugo Boss one) that I had tried on while we were shopping together. I didn't like it. He knew I didn't like it. We had a whole conversation about me not liking it.

On enquiring as to why he got it, he finally admitted they the "face" of the perfume was Sienna Miller and he fancied her.

Unclear as to whether he thought it'd make me look like her.

Shockingly, we are no longer together.

My ex FIL once bought his wife wheel trims for her car, tightest man I've ever known.

SamW98 · 09/09/2023 07:33

An ex bf bought me a toothbrush for my birthday then got really passed off that I wasn’t absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude.

Cakeymamma88 · 09/09/2023 07:37

Years ago, The first year I was married and we'd moved in to our first home, my ex husband bought me a food mixer and an ironing board/cover for Christmas.

Is this a competitive "men being insensitive dicks and women finding it funny/enabling it" thread?

Sophie89j · 09/09/2023 07:48

My DP got me a letter organiser for Christmas one year, he said it was a joke present as when he moved in a had a specific way of which I organised my post and he thought we needed one as he didn’t approve of the way I did it🙄😂

C1N1C · 09/09/2023 08:10

My partner at the time bought me a Chandler Bing style bracelet (Remember that episode?)...

justasking111 · 08/09/2023 11:51

Why, just why?

Hey, I did that for my wife! She needed a bedside shelf for a drink etc and I found this beautiful piece of wood and made a thing of it... I tried! 😭

ConnieTucker · 09/09/2023 08:15

Mine was a romantic dinner out, just him and me, when his girlfriend turned up, with her husband and children, and forced themselves onto my table.
This needs more explanation.

my dh was always terrible, completely last minute and thoughtless, when buying presents. Sometimes he didnt bother at all. I started buying myself presents and wrapping them and opening them on my bday and christmas so i wasnt disappointed. It didnt take many bdays and christmasses for him to then up his game.

soselfopinionated · 09/09/2023 08:29

A cheque in a plain white envelope.
From our joint account.

He's an ex now.

Namechangerererererer · 09/09/2023 08:42

This is so depressing to read. Honestly why are men so shit? I include mine in this.

How do men, as people, go through life living with someone and have no idea what gift their wife or gf would appreciate? I honestly wish i could go back and lift my standards bar off the fucking floor. The best I can do now is raise a non useless son and teach my daughter better.

Anyway my contribution is dh for a significant birthday decided to host an afternoon tea (I don't like afternoon tea) and invite his family - which is fine they're lovely - but where are my friends and family? He also picked the same venue that his grandfathers wake had been at, about 6 months earlier so awful association with the place. Its not even nice, just local and he's too lazy to look anywhere else.

Justcallmebebes · 09/09/2023 09:09

A lady shave and not just any old lady shave, a second hand one. He's an ex

Do bore off

Mememe1234 · 09/09/2023 09:43

A Saint Laurent handbag that cost a fortune but I don’t even go out so I’ve used it once 😅
Also, I’m pretty tight with money so I just thought it was a frivolous and wasteful purchase. I’d rather get something more practical that I can use regularly.
He also got me a Rolex watch for our wedding anniversary and he has a hernia everything I wear it as he’s worried I scratch it so I never wear it now and it’s collecting dust 🤪 if he would allow it I would sell the watch and get something else. It’s got sentimental value for him as he’s mad about watches. He wanted us both to have a matching watch 😬

cilaskakaos · 09/09/2023 10:13

WTF?!

Shan't! 🤣

I'm pissing myself laughing at these!

Hard to pick a best one but I think the toothpicks is a cracker.

The best thread yet 🤣

WhatTimeDoYouCallThis · 09/09/2023 10:29

The year of the large glass vase shaped like a giant droopy bollock, made to balance on a piece of burnt wood, stands out. He's usually great at presents, think it may have been lockdown madness.

Fushia123 · 09/09/2023 10:49

My tired and stressed out sister in law took her chr regularly to ride on the small railway run by volunteers in her local park.
For her birthday her husband gave her a voucher to spend a day driving the train.

piesforever · 09/09/2023 10:50

Oh I've done this many times and yes he was deeply offended I didn't like his rubbish gift!! Choose my own now!
