What's the worst birthday present your OH has bought you

I've just asked my OH politely to return my birthday present. He sulked a bit but will do. It's the first time I have done this.

So am I alone?

Not birthday, but one Christmas my ex husband bought all his employees' wives my favourite perfume and gave me a food processor. He just couldn't understand why it upset me.

PandaChopChop · 08/09/2023 17:22

I got a poncho 4 years in a row.

I have never been known to wear ponchos.

The worst thing is, he is an ex now but we have DC together. I am grateful that he bought presents on the children's behalf so this is very lighthearted.

But what did I get? Another poncho.

Feisty1youare · 08/09/2023 17:22

The Fitbit doesn't sound bad compared to most of these haha!

Mine was for christmas, our first Christmas he got me an egg poacher and some mugs. We hadn't been together that long at the time but I've still no idea why he thought an egg poacher was a good idea! 7 years later we are still going strong but since then I've always made a wish list . Some people are just rubbish at buying gifts

Himself, covered in whipped cream and cherries.

Sounds appealing right? Picture a skinny, 6 foot, 20 something man as pale as a ghost, laid on a sticky bed with rapidly melting cream collecting in his nether regions followed by glacé cherries. About as sexy as turd.

Properly laughed at this. Sorry 🤣🤣😅😅

Can't get over the guy who spent 60K on a watch for himself as a surprise on his GF's birthday. When my DH started earning the top end of 6 figures we paid off the mortgage with a similar amount, just 3 months before interest rates went to shit. He bought me a step counter watch I really wanted as an anniversary gift. (I almost want to ask if you're still with him).

WE’D been talking about how WE probably needed to get a new printer soon as ours was playing up. Luckily it was nearly Christmas….. 🙄

To be fair apart from that (which we still joke about 15 years later) he’s usually pretty good at presents.

Whichwhatnow · 08/09/2023 17:32

My birthday is imminent. My husband has (finally) bothered to redeem the voucher for afternoon tea that he bought me for my last birthday. That's it.

I wouldn't mind so much but a) I hate sandwiches and scones (and tea, actually) and b) I bought him an actual safari for his birthday in a few weeks.

I am silently fuming but I won't be quite so silent on the day...

Same happened her - a printer and some plates another year.

Lwrenagain · 08/09/2023 17:41

Ex bought me a box set of his favourite show.
He knew I didn't like it before he bought it.

Allywill · 08/09/2023 17:44

some ruby earrings for my 40th. i don’t have pierced ears. we have been together since we were 17 and apparently he “didn’t notice” !

SparkyBlue · 08/09/2023 17:49

A Pandora bracelet. I just couldn't speak I was so surprised as he normally he is great with gifts

A tax disc holder for my car... this was after the rules changed and you no longer needed to display your tax disc.

I actually think you win. 🤣

ShinyBandana · 08/09/2023 18:04

Plastic flowers of the type that you put permanently in front of a gravestone in a cemetery.

It was an unfortunate mistake and we howl laughing about it frequently. He now knows that fresh flowers don’t live on the top shelf of the florists. Honestly! It’s a good job there were other presents though 😊

NonMiDispiace · 08/09/2023 18:18

A replacement car bonnet from the scrapyard, totally different colour. He’d hit a pheasant while driving my car, leaving a dent right in the middle.
Luckily my mother got to hear about it before me….so he got me a box of chocolate brazils, I hate nuts 🙄

GalileoHumpkins · 08/09/2023 18:28

Vibrating nipple clamps and a bodysuit that smelt like a beachball.

ReadySalty · 08/09/2023 18:30

A small useless magenta satin pillow with "Mummy" embroidered onto it.

It was A5 size.

It was utter shit.

MissInterpretation · 08/09/2023 18:31

I got some of them @ShinyBandana But there were no lessons learned. Still a steam mop followed, and the George Foreman. Not to mention the bracelet for my 40th which would have been really nice had I not have had to choose it, order it, get it engraved, pay for it, and then be given half the money...

Kingsleadhat · 08/09/2023 18:33

I asked him not to choose books as he invariably chose things I didn't like. He asked for some pointers. I said no celeb autobiographies. No chicklit. Nothing by Alexander Macall Smith. He got me
Clare Balding's autobiography , Confessions of a Shopaholic and the Number One Ladies Detective Agency. 🤣 Genuinely flabbergasted when I asked for the receipts

londonmummy1966 · 08/09/2023 18:53

A (very) big birthday - I had asked either for a Mulberry Bayswater or a Cartier Tank - the sort of price bracket for his present for the same birthday. He bought me a Nike watch - if I hadn't seen the Amazon order I would have cried when I opened it. It wenr to the charity shop the next day. DC were outraged and made him buy me the Bayswater for Christmas that year

One other year he bought me a Jeremy CLarkson book about cars that he wanted

Roomforactivites · 08/09/2023 19:02

Pickle Rick socks - probably the only present he’s ever for me without him asking

violetcuriosity · 08/09/2023 19:06

My ex bought about 10 Pandora charms. I didn't even have the bracelet, let alone wear anything like that.

mrswarthog · 08/09/2023 19:11

This is really outing as I tell everyone this story. DH is usually very good, but one (very stressful, my DF was dying, I'd just had a terrible pregnancy and had been very ill) year he went off list.
He booked himself in for a vasectomy as he was worried about further pregnancies. I was not in agreement. He had to have the general anaesthetic one and the appointment came back as my birthday.
He also, panicking about everything, decided that the one thing I wanted above all else was a Tefal Airfryer.
So for my birthday, I got a chip pan and a vasectomy.
Bearing in mind, we're in Liverpool where taking the piss is a daily passtime, he has NEVER lived this down 😄

gingeristhenewblack43 · 08/09/2023 19:16

So this was a Valentine's Day present.

Just to give some background information I had given birth by C Section 3 months before, had polyhydramnious whilst pregnant, had a post partum haemorrhage and was rushed into emergency surgery to have a balloon inserted into my uterus.

My Valentine's Day present 3 months after this was a homemade voucher offering to pay for a tummy tuck.

Believe it or not we are no longer married 🤷🏼‍♀️

You still missed out on a present though!

Mine was a romantic dinner out, just him and me, when his girlfriend turned up, with her husband and children, and forced themselves onto my table.

I left him shortly after this
