Were you sick on your wedding day? If so, how did you cope?

Following on from my other thread, and if the bride is still sick on the day…
What did you do if this was you??

I was sick on my wedding day but only upset stomach and nausea. No actual vomiting. That waited until I was on the flight to our honeymoon destination the next day.

I don't think I did anything specific to cope. I just remember having to struggle with my dress and going to the loo far too many times, and I also remember that I didn't get to enjoy the meal that I'd specifically chosen because DH and I really loved it, even though it probably wouldn't have been the most popular choice (duck - there was a vegetarian option too.)

To be honest, the wedding day wasn't a huge struggle because I thought it was just normal nerves. It was coping with d&v on our safari honeymoon that was....ummm...quite challenging!

Oh blimey! D&V on safari does not sound fun at all!!

I was a bit unwell - to be honest the emotions around being unwell on my wedding day were probably worse than the physical side!

I had a few medications in my bag and got on with it, but was a bit upset that I wasn't at my best.

Not me, but my uncle got really bad chicken pox 4 days before the wedding (he was 18 and this was the 80's) they had to put so much makeup on him he looked like dracula, the picture is up at my nans house and we still laugh at it to this day. He was actually really ill with it. they had a huge wedding and about 150 people got infected afterwards.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 08/09/2023 07:34

I can't believe your family thought it was a good idea for someone with chickenpox to go to a wedding! I would not have been impressed with that at all!

Babygirl888 · 08/09/2023 07:37

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn it was his wedding! People had flown from all over to be there. Before he had the spots show up, he had seen everyone which obviously started the spread. Even the bridemaids were spotty on the day. Was terrible!

I don't see the problem with it, most adults have had chicken pox by that age! A wedding to remember in a different way for him lol

Babygirl888 · 08/09/2023 08:19

@ginderella85 the pictures are so funny honestly. he's really dark skinned and they only had make up for my pale aunt so he really looked like dracula 😂

ginderella85 · 08/09/2023 08:22

Brilliant 🤣 just giggling at the fact the photos are probably hung on the wall in their home and no one bats ans eye lid any more 🤣

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 08/09/2023 08:51

@Babygirl888 oh my goodness! Didn't realise he was the groom!!

@ginderella85 clearly most hadn't had it as 150 caught it at the wedding! Just hope none of them were pregnant...

Babygirl888 · 08/09/2023 08:59

Yes his wedding! I was only a baby at the time but my auntie told me they'd planned it for so long and alot of people actually drove from our home country which took over a week so no way to contact anyone back then. The wedding video is also so funny, he was so ill and dripping with swear the whole day and was propped up against things for the whole 6 hours. There was 550 people there 😂 the picture is centrepiece on my nans wall, with his big white ruffled shirt, black suit jacket and white face he looks so much like a vampire lol and not just us, everyone walks in and goes 'wtf' 😂

I had a bad cold. I dosed up with cold & flu capsules, spent the day before in bed and adrenaline got me through the day.
