What time do you get up and go to bed to get everything done? Feel slightly squeezed all the time

I am exhausted and feel like I'm late for everything! IT's only the 3rd day of term ffs.
No time for any fun things - have nothing in diary at the moment to look forward to - just work and deadlines and stuff for the 4DC
We are trying to recover financially from a bad few years and DC1 has GCSEs this year. just feel tired
Please be kind.

I just don't get everything down, I need sleep most!

hertfrog · 07/09/2023 17:22

I'm a night owl and my DCs take ages to settle into bed, so I'm not child-free until 9.30pm and then I'm usually up until 1am, sometimes 2am getting meal prep, cleaning, chores and life admin done (and OU study!). We make an effort to do it that way so weekends are mostly chore-free, and we can spend it doing fun stuff with the DCs.
DH is better at mornings than me and gets up at 6.30am to get himself ready and get the DCs ready. I get up at 7.30am (though I'm awake much earlier as bfing DC3, but I do it half asleep).

I go to bed at 9 to read or watch TV. I usually fall asleep between 10.30 and 11. I get up at 6.45.

Lower your standards. Hoover every other day, mop the floors only when visibly dirty...

Delegate and/or outsource tasks where resources and finances allow. Get the kids to make dinner a couple of times a week or feed/walk animals, do the laundry, housework etc

Get shopping delivered, pay someone to clean your house, go through the automatic car wash etc

NotTheSlugandLettuce · 07/09/2023 18:46

Blush My standards are already quite low. Honestly I am not hooeverinh every day.
I wake up about 7-7.30 but go to
Bed about midnight.
I just never seem to have enough time.
I know I am on here now, I am
Just catching my breath.

I have a cleaner who comes once a fortnight for 3 hours - that is all we can afford. What that really buys us is that the house is a vague sense of okay this isn't actually a shit tip for the evening that she has been. Kids do a fair amount of activities (one or two each, but there are four of them)

MintJulia · 07/09/2023 18:53

I get up at 6, into bed by 10. Anything that doesn't get done has to wait for the weekend or a day off.

Listen to the latest Mel Robins podcast with KC Davies. All about this type of thing and a really good perspective shift. Honestly found so much that made me go 'oh yeah'

This is the funniest thing I’ve ever read on mumsnet, although I’m sure you’re deadly serious. Do you really think hoovering every other day is lowering your standards? I’m pretty sure I don’t know anyone who hoovers as frequently as every other day. We have a weekly cleaner who hoovers and it’s very rare that the hoover comes out in between. Maybe the odd blast with the hand held hoover if something is spilled or someone walks mud into the house.

EmmaPaella · 07/09/2023 19:26

I hear you OP. I am knackered and disorganised too.

WeWereInParis · 07/09/2023 19:28

Lower your standards. Hoover every other day,

😂 Hoovering every other day would be a serious increase in my standards

AceofPentacles · 07/09/2023 20:15

I get up at 6am and stop doing "things" at 7pm. I think 13 hours of chores and domestic drudgery is enough

... jeez, I was just using it as a an example of something you MIGHT do if you hoover every day (which people do actually do).

I know people who mop the kitchen floor every day. i know people who clean their toilet every day ...

Lentilweaver · 07/09/2023 22:13

I get up at 7 ish and in bed by 11 ish. Though I don't sleep well these days. And my home is messy and disorganised, because we don;t have enough room ( that will improve by next year).

With you, it's the 4 DC. I am not trying to be mean. Just saying that 4 DC is probably phenomenally tiring. Is it at all possible to get something cheap and fun in the diary? I find I am better with household drudgery, if I have something to look forward to.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 07/09/2023 22:31

I never have enough time either. It’s a lot, I only have three and it’s a lot, just come out the other side of GCSEs only to launch straight into a levels and another dc doing GCSEs, and still have primary school in the mix too. And work, and with everything else, I feel you!

last night I went to sleep at 2.40 and got up at 7. Night before sleep at 2.30 and up at 7.18 because I slept through the alarm. 4-5 hours is average but thankfully I’m not woken during that stretch more than once these days.
