I have them in the bathroom and kitchen. I can’t find anything rotting anywhere, I have done the vinegar and cling film trick and it works but they’re still coming! They’re disgusting what else can i do? I try to clean as much as possible.
I can’t buy bananas anymore as they’re all over them as soon as they see one.

Fly paper

Small glass with wine they happily drien themselves

You need to attract some spiders into your house.

And if the spiders get out of hand, some birds? And then a cat etc.

She'll end up like the old woman who swallowed a fly 🤣

They normally live in/off vegetation & build up of sticky stuff.

Do they come out of the overflow if you run the water? If so bleach & boiling water can help shift whatever residue they're enjoying.

Plants - they will lay eggs in the soil. Bang the pots & see what comes out.

Clean around any pet food bowls/floor surrounding/any pet food storage

Deep clean of any food cupboards/under the sink/under tables/floors & skirting with food spills or sticky residue. Just keep cleaning.

I've dealt with one infestation in a bathroom which was a collapsed drain under the bath.

They're horrid little nobheads.

Boil a kettle, pour boiling water down the plug holes last thing at night, then put the plugs in, do that for three or four nights - down the plug holes is where they lay their eggs, unless you kill off the eggs, all the wine traps in the world won't work.

I've just invested in some organza bags to put my fruit in, in the fruit bowl, for this very reason. I'll report back if it works.

Yup we've been dealing with this and the turning point was when we started making sure the plug hole was blocked at all times. That is where they breed. Once you do that, you stop more coming and then you just have to trap the ones you have already.

I left the food waste bin lid open for an hour with a dusting of icing sugar on the food. Slammed the lid shut & opened it outside - got rid of 99 per cent of them that way.

Electric tennis racquet fly squatter works really well for them. You need to do it every day though to keep on top of them

MoxieFox · 07/09/2023 11:52

They are probably drain flies, not fruit flies. You need to clean drain with a drain brush. It’s like a giant pipe cleaner attached to a handle to clear the slime where they lay their eggs and then use drain declogger like mr muscle or drain buster overnight with lots and lots of hot water and vinegar for good measure to rinse down in the morning. Then you pour a bucket of really hot water with zoflora or dettol down the drain once a week to keep the slime from building back up. The adult flies will eventually die out. The key is to kill off the eggs in the drain.
