‘Enormous potential’

I’ve accepted a job offer which I’m excited about
The hiring manager has said I have ‘enormous’ potential
I actually found this patronising as if I don’t have the skills but I have potential?
or am I taking it the wrong way?

It is just a generic complement, for when you don't know someone but think you can see that they will do great at the job. Or that's how I would hear it anyway

I would take it that there was 'enormous potential' to go far in the firm.
