Does anyone remember this school drinks machine from the 90's?

Reading through the thread yesterday about what packed lunches you had as a child got me thinking about something we had at my primary school.

I was in primary school during the early to mid 90s and there was this drinks machine in our canteen, I'd love to remember what the hell it was called.

Here's what I remember about it:

  • the flavour options were lemon, blackcurrant or orange
  • it had to be operated by a midday assistant
  • the drinks cost about 20-30p
  • they came in a paper cup
  • they were incredibly sweet and left this sherbet like residue at the bottom (the best bit) and everyone used to use their fingers to scoop it out!

Anyone have this machine at their primary school?!

We had a Klix one. There were various (mostly horrible) hot drinks and the juice you could have orange or lemon and it came hot or cold. It didn't require anyone to operate it though, you just put your coin in and pressed the button but you definitely got residue in the bottom.

In Sixth Form we used to have triple French on a Monday and Tuesday so half way through we would all troop off to get the Galaxy hot chocolate and there'd be tons of residue in that too but it was nice, we called it Galaxy cake.

Ours was called Klix! Occasionally we had hot pineapple as an option.

This was mid 80s though. Beige cups.

Yes Klix!

We had a max pax in the office where I worked 92-94. Being the YTS I had the 'honour' of refilling the thing. It served tea, coffee, watery tomato soup and lurid orange squash in beige cups for about 20p each.

We had a Max Pax machine in our sixth form common room. I've just had hot chocolate flashbacks.

We used to spend the whole of break trying to stick our hands up and pull down a sherbet cup. You could get get one out if it was the last in the stack. Had a permanent purple or orange finger from scooping out the half dissolved sherbet.

We had one in our school - I remember you had to put numbers in and if you put a different number you got a weird combo e.g. a mixture of tea and coffee?!

@User12340000 I’m so excited to have come across this thread. I was literally just trying to describe it to my husband a couple of weeks ago as his school didn’t have it. I must be about the same age and we had exactly the same set up for it.
