I feel so unwell with a high temp

Hi all
hoping for some sympathy and any advice. I started with a sore throat on one side only on Tuesday. Only felt bad when swallowing. By Tuesday evening it hurt on both sides and my temp was over 38.
I’ve been taking ibuprofen and paracetamol regularly but my temp is still high- it just got to 40. DH has brought a fan up.
I have cramps in my legs and sides and burning sensation in my arms. I just feel dreadful. I have slept on/off the whole time since Tuesday evening.

You poor thing, maybe Covid? Drink lots and keep taking pain killers and rest. Hope you feel better soon.

FlamingoFloss · 06/09/2023 23:39

It sounds like flu or Covid. You need to call 111
Call your health care provider if your temperature is 103 F (39.4 C) or higher. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these signs or symptoms accompanies a fever: Severe headache.

QuestionableMouse · 06/09/2023 23:41

Can you do a covid test? Sounds like the new strain. If your temp isn't coming down with meds, it's time to give 111 a ring - you need proper medical advice.

Covid OP. My symptoms started like this last week. A one day delivery set of tests from Amazon confirmed it

TheUsualChaos · 06/09/2023 23:45

Probably COVID. The latest wave is really knocking people for six. Keep hydrated, you should start to feel much better after 48 hours

Adulwithhightemp · 07/09/2023 00:06

Thanks for the covid suggestion- I hadn’t thought to test. However, I just did a test and it’s negative. I’m thinking it could be flu.

Sorry you feel so ill- DH is is the same at the mo- has tested 3 days running but always negative I'm convinced he has it- I had it in July for the 2nd time- all the same symptoms. Take care- for me after 5 days of misery it lifted overnight - but I had awful fatigue for about six weeks after. I WFH so had a nap every lunch time so I could keep going, Only just got my energy back!

QuestionableMouse · 07/09/2023 00:26

Flu comes on suddenly - when I had it last I went from being fine to shivering and really ill in bed in a few hours.

Could be tonsillitis - you may need antibiotics.

Whatever it is, you need to get some proper medical advice!

AussieManque · 07/09/2023 00:29

@Adulwithhightemp keep testing, swab your throat and cheeks plus a nostril (5 seconds each). Many people aren't getting the positive till day 4 or 5. COVID is rampant, flu is not in season.

For your throat make warm lemon and honey, and stay hydrated!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2023 00:31

Yes, flu is very sudden. Is it flu season?

LivStanshall · 07/09/2023 00:32

It’s a bit early for flu. I had Covid and tested negative for days before I tested positive. Keep testing.
