Why does the heat make me feel overweight when im not??

I'm 5ft 4 and 10 stone so not overweight but heavier than before baby. Before baby i was 8 stone and I still felt fat in the heat. I remember being very aware of all my flesh during a holiday to Italy. Its not a self esteem thing, I was happy with how I looked, recognised I was slim but FELT huge if that makes sense?

I always get this swollen, sticky, wobbly, irritable feeling all over! Like I'm a big lump of flesh and I'm wilting in the heat. It's no better or worse depending on my weight. The physical feelings are very much bloated, sluggish, heavy limbs and i feel less fit.

What is it? Is it a sensory thing? Should I just move to Antarctica? It also makes my fuse very short and I'm so irritable.

I get this too. Feel overweight and gross in the heat.

Farmageddon · 06/09/2023 21:49

Yes I know what you mean OP, the last few days in this heat has made me feel bloated and uncomfortable, even though I'm not overweight. I think being sticky and sweaty just makes my clothes stick to me which doesn't help.

Me too. I definitely could do with losing a stone tho but even thinner younger me used to get this feeling.

I do think I actually am a bit bigger in the heat. My fingers and legs swell a bit with water retention (this has always happened). I feel the same as when I’m due on.

Childhood is the last time I didn’t feel a blob in hot weather.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 06/09/2023 22:17

I am fat but yes feel like a big lump of fatty flash.

BeverlyBrook · 06/09/2023 22:22

I thought that was just normal! How everyone feels? I think the heat must make one expand.

Yep, heat makes objects expand, including me.

Nowanextraone · 06/09/2023 22:24

I'm the same. Sometimes I wonder if it's because I drink so much water so bloat out and go puffy, or that might be totally BS and I imagine it.

I just feel grim, sweaty and ugly in the heat

SeatonCarew · 06/09/2023 22:27

It's water retention and it's not nice. 😧 I notice the difference between my house in Spain and in the UK. I suggest putting your feet up for a while and cooling yourself down as a remedy.

Teisenau · 06/09/2023 22:28

I think we puff out with some water retention, and everything swells - like how when it's very cold we can often feel our hands are skinnier because the cold causes blood vessels to contract or something? Might be talking bollocks, but when I'm hot I'm puffh and when I'm cold I'm the opposite.

saxamaxa · 06/09/2023 22:33

Yes it's normal to swell in heat and humid weather which is called heat edema. I can never wear the sandals I buy in the UK in a hot country as my feet never fit and my clothes just feel tighter and tighter.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/09/2023 23:18

I'm exactly like this and normal bmi
I think everything swell in the heat and with looser clothing it literally all hangs out!

Nerdynerdynerd · 07/09/2023 22:42

How come a lot of people look like they're just sailing along in the heat and I look like I'm stranded on a deserted island looking for a water source? 😥

What's the secret? Are they secretly suffering?
