Going back to work after being sick

This sounds totally obvious, but what's your rule of thumb for going back to work after you've been sick?

I have covid (positive on Saturday) and every morning I think I'm OK. Then as the day progresses, I realise actually I need to lie down and can't do anything because im too tired.I went into work yesterday and has to come home. I stayed off today but am not sure whether to go in tomorrow or not. I woke up this morning and felt pretty good so got up and did some bits and bobs.

Now I'm wiped out again. I just can't seem to make the judgement! What's your rule of thumb, when you have a kind of up and down illness where you feel OK when resting but wiped out when you try to do something!

whats the company policy? I think you should just stay home and rest for your own health and possibly that of your coworkers. Hopefully you will be supported in that?

This is the advice I would give as an HR Advisor.

Do you have capacity to WFH and / or do reduced hours?

Policy is to come in when yiu feel up to it and practise precautions such as wear mask, ventilation etc. The thing is, I keep thinking I'm OK and then I'm not.

@Divebar2021 unfortunately not :-(
