Help! 9 year old has size 7 feet

My 9 year old son has size 7 feet. He needs new trainers, however I cannot find reasonably priced ones that have a velcro fastening that are suitable for a child of his age for P.E. at school and regular, none school use. Can anyone help? Laces are a no-go, he is autistic and has hypermobility.

Forgot to say, budget is around £50 per pair, can go higher if need be but would rather not.

I feel your pain - also have a large footed child. Though without the need for them to be non laces.

Would these work: https://www.sportsdirect.com/nike-revolution-6-fly-ease-next-nature-running-shoes-mens-121168?cq_src=google_ads&cq_cmp=17608069805&cq_term=&cq_plac=&cq_net=g&cq_plt=gp&cq_con=143920859931&cq_med=pla&cq_pos=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxuCnBhDLARIsAB-cq1q2BAQ-Oj2Lig4u_J7MnCZ1Kl0mEecJzPwyUiRrh-A-s3LsjKyp3x0aAlq_EALw_wcB#colcode=12116803

Also you can buy elastic laces that don’t need tying, and put them in any pair of shoes or trainers. He’d have to treat them as slip ons - don’t know if that would work for hyper mobility?

or these: https://www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-ash-strap-trainers-mens-160087#colcode=16008737

Or these: https://amzn.eu/d/f5anec4

Basically you have to look in non children’s stores now they’re up to size 7, most of the time. It’s a big pain but you’ll find the best places soon. Search for men’s easy fastening, or strap trainers perhaps?

good luck!

You can buy several types of elstic laces on Amazon.
We prefer The ones with the little silver fastening, tolerate the ones with a toggle, and hate the H bar shaped one's.
Have a look. They replace the standard laces in most shoes.

We found men's trainers with Velcro at SportsDirect (DS is 14 and now a size 10). for shoes, we used Startrite as they have boy's school schools in velcro up into adult sizes.

Buy elastic laces.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 06/09/2023 10:48

Would these work, available in black or white and 100% velcro fastening at £24.99? https://www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-ash-strap-trainers-mens-160087#colcode=16008703

InterFactual · 06/09/2023 10:49

Elastic laces with a toggle? You can get them cheap on Amazon and put them in any pair of shoes to make them slip on.

Why are children's feet getting so much bigger these days ?

Skechers and Adidas definitely do adult sizes with the stretchy 'fake' laces and velcro. Lots can be found on sports direct etc for about £30 but worth checking the adidas website regularly, they have really great sales.

My son wears these nike flyease trainers. They have several other types in mens too that don't use laces.

Thanks, we tried a pair of flyease last year but they wouldn't fit for some reason. I think it was his instep or fat feet.

Elastic laces are brilliant, I have them in my trainers and just slip my feet in and out of them no problem

whoateallthecookies · 06/09/2023 11:54

Have you tried Decathlon? That's where we get velcro trainers for DD (size 5, so beyond 'standard' velcro sizes). Incidentally, we've tried the elastic laces, but they haven't worked well for her - she struggles to get them tight enough, and they've tended to fray.

Shoezone in the mens section £15
