I am 51 and have been on HRT for 2 years. It's trade off. Not everyone puts on weight, but you have to consider whether a bit of weight gain is worth being able to deal with the other symptoms, and how debilitating those symptoms are for you.

My experience is that the menopause has been incredibly tough, mentally as well as physically, and HRT patches have been a lifeline. If your GP has prescribed them, you must need them as most women report a battle to get HRT prescribed in the first place.

Have you read the menopause board? Absolutely loads of advice on there.

I'm on oestrogen patches 100, the coil and testosterone gel.

There was a tiny bit of weight gain at first but that's your body getting used to oestrogen again. So it swells up a bit. All good now 8 months in.

Just watch what you eat for a while.

Can't recommend it enough. Make sure you get vaginal oestrogen to fend off the vaginal atrophy as well.

I'm on oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets and have been for three years now. They literally saved my life - one of my peri symptoms was terrible, awful insomnia. I was suicidal when I spoke to my GP. She prescribed hrt and within a couple of days I was sleeping again. The brain fog, night sweats and hot flushes all stopped too and i was back to normal. I'm no fatter than before, though I have changed shape a bit. I guess it's depends how your body will react and how bad your symptoms are. You can try it for a few months and see?
