Do you leave soap, shampoo etc bottles out in your shower/bath?

Had a couple of bathroom fitters round today.
The wall is 1750 and baths are typically 1700, so would need a bit of filler at the end (the current bath, which has the shower over, is shorter and the filler is a tile width).
The fitter commented that normally he'd build the whole wall out to pack the gap rather than have a filled edge.
I said that I found the extra bit really useful for shampoo bottles etc and he said "I'm not allowed to leave them out in my house".
WTF???
Do you put your shower products away in a cupboard after you've used them?

I only leave out soap/hand-wash. Everything else gets wiped and put back in the cupboard after use. Takes 5 secs.

I don't like clutter, hate seeing bathrooms with bottles & bottles out.

Your home is for using, not for display in a magazine. Leave them out. Functional items that are used daily does not count as mess.

Bottles, sponges/ puffs and razors are out and it looks a horrendous mess as all 4 of us use different things. We are getting a new bathroom in the next 6 months and plan to have 2 or 3 shower niches to cope with all the shower paraphernalia.

The way you’ve worded this (ie. not “I hate my bathroom with…..”) makes it suggest you hate other peoples bathrooms with bottles out. Is that what you meant?

Yes. Bath stuff in the cupboard. Takes five seconds. Looks better. Rarely bath anyway and don't wash hair in there (or drink wine, or watch podcasts).
Shower has two glass corner shelves in the cubicle for shower stuff but there's not loads on them.

I leave them out. Some people keep them in cupboards in a different room and take them out to use every day. That is a level of commitment to neatness that I cannot fathom.

Who are these neat people?!

We bought one of those 3 pump simple human dispensers. I'm there we keep shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and a razor hook. Anything more than that we put away so nothing on the shower floor

MrsCarson · 06/09/2023 12:44

Hell yes I leave them in the shower. I'm not at Uni with shared facilities.

Sprogonthetyne · 06/09/2023 12:46

I do since my 3yo started using any she can find to make potions. Until a few months ago, and hopefully in the not to distant future, they lived on our extra tile width bit.

Cupboard under the sink and the ones I use most regularly on the side of the bath in a basket. I hate clutter and have enough with the kid's toys so I minimise where I can.

CallieRedux · 06/09/2023 16:41

I bought a shit, 2/1, bank-owned cottage juuust before the pandemic, and spent the next couple of years redoing it (don't look too closely at the tile).

The sole bathroom is TINY, so I try to keep it as clutter free as possible. I have a shower niche, but I decant my drugstore shower stuff into brown pump bottles - solely to avoid visual clutter, honest. 😀

Easy for me, though - I live by myself. When I was married, with a kid at home, other people's clutter drove me mad. :)

I have 3DC (2 teenage girls) so despite having an enormous cupboard with everything beautifully sorted in Hay crates the main bathroom has all surfaces covered with various skin care products. The second bathroom only has soap and shampoo bars out. And I spent ages looking for soap dishes that actually drain properly.
