Do you leave soap, shampoo etc bottles out in your shower/bath?

Had a couple of bathroom fitters round today.
The wall is 1750 and baths are typically 1700, so would need a bit of filler at the end (the current bath, which has the shower over, is shorter and the filler is a tile width).
The fitter commented that normally he'd build the whole wall out to pack the gap rather than have a filled edge.
I said that I found the extra bit really useful for shampoo bottles etc and he said "I'm not allowed to leave them out in my house".
WTF???
Do you put your shower products away in a cupboard after you've used them?

Yes I leave stuff out.
I put makeup and moisturiser and stuff that needs storing properly or doesn't get used every day, in the cupboard.
But I leave out soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, and the razor I'm currently using on the ledge next to the bath. Could not be arsed getting them out again every day and then putting them back, what's the point?

I leave stuff out, but then I think the apparently widespread practice of putting toasters, kettles, etc. out of sight rather strange.

Possibly such behaviour is like constantly staging the house for viewing.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 05/09/2023 23:22

I think putting stuff away and even reducing the amount of stuff you have in the first place is about calming down the home rather than staging it. I have to say it has worked for me!

No I have stuff out on my window sill which is ny the shower over bath.

If u have space to build put that wall they could do built in shelves so your stuff is still easy to reach but not easy to see. Plus u get more from your wall than one shelf

KevinAndHerKits · 05/09/2023 23:32

None of this makes any sense. Even if you were the sort of person who puts toiletry bottles away in the cupboard during the daytime (not my style, but each to their own), surely you'd still want to have a ledge on which to place the stuff you use while you're actually in the bath?

Soap, face stuff, razor, glass of white wine/cup of tea, phone for podcasts?

I love the ritual of retrieving my chosen bottles, and then at the end drying them and putting them away. It makes it feel special.

unfortunately for me, DH is the opposite and has about 6-8 bottles in the shower at any one time

Wakintoblueskies · 05/09/2023 23:43

I have storage in the bathroom so yes I put them away.

However my DH does not so I'm quite envious of your bathroom fitter's partner convincing him to tidy up after using the shower!

Of course leave them out!

I love a little tiled ledge at the end of the bath. We had one in the house I grew up in.

I have one with a cupboard underneath it. It's very handy!!

With 3 DC, two of them girls, the amount of crap in our bathroom is out of control!

Seagullchippy · 05/09/2023 23:47

I put them on the rim of the bathtub. That's the obvious place for them, surely, as that's where you use them!

I like to preserve my energy and it would take extra effort to have to rummage through drawers or cupboards before every bath or shower. Also, the drawers and cupboards are already full.

Invisimamma · 05/09/2023 23:50

Until recently when the mismatched garish plastic bottles all started to really get on my nerves. So I've replaced them with matching refillable bottles so we don't have lots of different products out.

Treesinmygarden · 05/09/2023 23:52

I'm in the process of having a new ensuite done.

The shower tray is totally flat so no 'edge' to put products on. I have a recessed shelf in the shower but it's so pretty I don't want it cluttered with crap!

Everyone uses the shower as it's a standalone while in the bathroom it's over the bath. So, between us all there would never be enough room.

However, this time I've got storage!!! Two drawers under the whb, and a wall unit with shelves. So, anyone who wants to keep their things in the ensuite can stash them in the cupboard!

caringcarer · 05/09/2023 23:55

I have 3 bottles, Dove, Pantene shampoo and Pantene conditioner. They sit on my windowsill with a spare loo roll.

HappierTimesAhead · 05/09/2023 21:58

I leave them out. Some people keep them in cupboards in a different room and take them out to use every day. That is a level of commitment to neatness that I cannot fathom.

Lol, same!

Maddy70 · 05/09/2023 23:57

Mine are always left out

mrsfollowill · 05/09/2023 23:59

Only the one bathroom in this old house. Shower gel x 2 always on the edge of the bath- Minty Original Source- both DS (adult) and I use- a 'more manly' one for DH Grin.
Big bottle of Head and Shoulders for both of them and my shampoo and conditioner. Bottle of Sanex bubble bath (sometimes I buy a special bubble bath just for me- eg a lavender or camomile)
Bar of Pears soap in a dish. Always all out- 6 bottles and a soap dish so not excessive.

TheGirlFromTomorrow · 06/09/2023 00:00

I leave mine out. Although I did once date a guy that would get very offended by the sight of my shampoo in the shower and hide everything in a drawer.

I think he's talking crap and he can't be arsed having to do a faffy job or fit extra bits and pieces at the end. Like the joiner who huffed and puffed because we had the gall to ask for shelves inside the cupboard he built for us 🙄

Johnisafckface · 06/09/2023 01:21

I leave them out. I have a little indented shelf in my shower and everything goes there. I’m too lazy to take out/ put up after every shower esp since I shower twice a day

Topseyt123 · 06/09/2023 01:26

I leave them out. I'd drive myself mad otherwise by getting into the shower before realising that I had left the shampoo and shower gel in the cabinet on the other side of the room. 😱🤣

Theoldwoman · 06/09/2023 03:23

We put the shampoos and conditioner away in the drawers. Leave out soap, body wash and face wash.

Puddycatfan · 06/09/2023 06:33

Mine all go back in the cupboard. Can't stand the clutter!

reluctantbrit · 06/09/2023 07:26

We have build in corner shelves in the shower, 3x shower gel, 2x shampoo, 1x conditioner.

At the bath we have 2 bubble bath and a bar of soap as it's next to the sink and DD uses soap in the morning.

None of us is able to remember to bring stuff into the shower in the morning before tea and it would just end in people shouting for help.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 06/09/2023 07:32

Shower gems have completely changed my showers :

borntobequiet · 06/09/2023 07:37

A shelf is handy when you’re in the bath for any products or items you’re using at the time, cups of tea, glasses of wine etc. Plus as a pp said, it leaves room to lean back properly.
You can always put things away anyway, you don’t have to leave it cluttered with bottles.
