Restaurant Recommendations in Oxfordshire?

40partytime · 05/09/2023 20:46

I am trying to find somewhere to book for my husband's 40th later this year. For max 15 people. Looking for nice food but not eyewateringly expensive/fancy. Somewhere with a nice friendly feel. Adults only so doesn't need to be particularly child-friendly.

I have been Googling but nothing jumping out at me.

We're in Oxfordshire, close to Oxford (on the North-West side).

Any recommendations would be much appreciated! I don't know why I am drawing such a blank.

Woodstock? There used to be lovely places there but I'm going back a few years.
I had a nice date in Brothertons years ago!

Thank you for replying!

I had forgotten about Brothertons. We went years ago and it was lovely. However having looked at recent reviews I'm not 100% sure.

DP and me are going close to Woodstock soon and have booked the Bird in Hand pub in Whitney. Not sure if that is special enough, but it gets really good reviews!

Cherwell Boathouse?

I always love The Trout at Wolvercote. Or Gees in Oxford. Second The Cherwell Boathouse.

Changed my name for this but I used to work there - a long time ago!
I got told off for being too chatty with the customers Grin

@Iusedtoworkthere 😂😂😂

Thank you for all the suggestions - I will definitely check them all out.

I thought I'd found somewhere in Oxford but they can't quite accommodate our party size (and also wanted a minimum spend of £1000 or a £250 fee for the booking and no minimum spend... So back to the drawing board. I'm going to send off a few enquiries and see what I get back.

Not sure if it's Oxfordshire enough (i.e. close enough) for you, but we went to The Greyhound recently and it was very nice indeed.

Edited

I SO want to go here (we have greyhounds so it's been on my radar) but I think it probably will be a bit far for some of our party unfortunately!

The Old Bank in Oxford?

40partytime · 06/09/2023 16:54

Gees is a good call. I went there for my 30th!

Thanks so much, you've all given me some inspiration.

The White Hart in Fyfield is lovely if they could accommodate your numbers.

whiteroseredrose · 06/09/2023 17:28

Was also going to suggest Gees!

The Swan at Islip is very good and Pompette in Summertown is very good and classic French
