How do you manage stress/shake off work at the end of the day? I need to get better at managing my mind basically. I mostly enjoy my job but it can get stressful and I need to get better at separating.

I'm mostly back at work now, but during lockdown I would switch off my computer and for a run.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/09/2023 20:44

I give myself a hard stop - don’t go back to your computer throughout the evening to endlessly check emails

Go for a walk and listen to a podcast / exercise

Go for a walk or a run. Use it as a transitional period between work and personal time.

Cup of tea

FiddleLeaf · 05/09/2023 20:46

Separate work space and walking the dog to almost commute home.

Mintearo7 · 05/09/2023 20:46

Put laptop away in a cupboard and switch off phone notifications. Tv series if you just want to chill. New craft hobby. Yoga session from YouTube.

I log off

Turn PC off

Then get on with my evening.

I don't go back into my study until 8.55 the next morning.

Exercise - move -

Having spent the last 15 mins writing notes it doesn't always work

museumum · 05/09/2023 20:54

computer off, no notifications on phone, and often exercise or if not then cooking.

Exactly this. Ive worked from home for about 15 years. I'm lucky that I have a spare room I can call my office. I rarely go in it outside of working hours, altho it does get used as a clothes drying room. Once I finish work, I switch off and shut the door!

BarelyLiterate · 05/09/2023 20:57

I shut down my laptop & close the door to my home office / spare room then go out, either to the gym or for a walk or just to the supermarket. Anything to get me out of the house.

LizzieSiddal · 05/09/2023 20:58

I go swimming or for a brisk walk.

ReginaPerrin · 05/09/2023 21:20

I go for a walk, usually to a nearby shop to pick up veg, bread etc. I need to leave the house if I’ve been working from home otherwise the day merges into one big blur.

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/09/2023 21:45

Walk the dog. During covid I was at the dining room table. I now have my own space and I log off and walk away from my room.

VeridicalVagabond · 05/09/2023 21:49

It sounds stupid, but I pick up my bag, put my work stuff in it and go for a walk. Just 10-15 minutes.

Then I come in, quick shower, change out of my work clothes and into my "home comfies". Then it feels like I've "come home" from work. The walk is my commute and my time to depressurise and get out of work mode.
