Stabbing Ovarian Pain?

MelCookie · 05/09/2023 19:58

I started getting stabbing pains in the area of right ovary at midday-ish today. It's like a sharp, stabbing pain than lasts a few seconds and then nothing.

It's happened on and off since - probably 10 times or so - but no pattern. A couple have have stopped me in my tracks.

I occasionally get ovulation pain (short sharp pain from one side) and this is definitely similar but doesn't usually persist this long.

Am perimenopausal (49) and on day 17 of fairly regular cycle.

Wondering if anyone has had similar or if ovulation pains have worsened for anyone during perimenopause?
.
Will see GP if this persists. Thanks

Bumping.
Few more sharp twinges/pinches this morning but nothing overnight. Or at least nothing that woke me up. Will see how it goes today and if it continues I will make a GP appointment.
Interested to know if anyone has had similar?

Yes, the first time so bad I called the doctor! Because of an ovarian cyst I was referred to a scan, however at the scan the cyst has gone & I have 2 fibroids. In the last few months I get the pain once a month or so but it quickly disappears. Very strange. I’m similar age to you.

Yes, I had months of very intense right sided pain exactly where (I imagine) my ovary would be. I had blood tests and a scan but nothing was found and it eventually seemed to resolve in its own, I would have been around 45 when this was happening.

No idea what caused it but have just put it down to a 'phase' of perimenopause as my other symptoms seem to have come and gone in phases too, had a couple of years of very heavy, prolonged periods after the ovary pain had subsided and now (I'm 49 now) they seem to be properly grinding to a halt. Do get it checked out OP but yes, it's possible it's 'just' down to peri.

Thanks both. I managed to get a GP appointment. Unsurprisingly, it could be any number of things but they are treating it as a UTI at the moment (trace of blood in urine sample) with antibiotics. If not resolved by next week, they'll refer me for ultrasound.
Pain still very sharp, but intermittent. Nothing since last night, so I really hope it has resolved. Seems really bloody painful for a UTI!

I had this a couple of months ago, @MelCookie Never had any bother with painful periods, then one day had a sudden excruciating pain and all I could do was lie on the bathroom floor til it eased a bit. Phoned GP the next day and they had me in for a blood test which showed a few worrying things, and I was sent for an ultrasound and internal exam. At the end of the exam, the doc snipped out a couple of polyps and weirdly I felt instantly better. It turns out I have an ovarian cyst but thankfully nothing to be too worried about, and I'm going for a repeat blood test and possibly a scan next month. Consultant said it could be endometriosis, or just random perimenopause symptoms. It was a shock at the time to have such a massive pain, but I haven't had any since, touch wood. I hope yours was a one-off too, but always best to check these things out.

Thanks @MissInterpretation. Seems to have subsided and haven't had any pains for a few days now 🤞
