A friend asked me today why I didn’t post the obligatory photo of my shiny new Year 7 standing proudly on the doorstep.

That will be because we all slept about three hours last night, this morning we had terror, anxious nausea and fury in equal measure. And we finally made it in five minutes late (a miracle!), puffy eyed and wearing only half a uniform, at which point an angel appeared in the form of the Head’s PA with the school dog who my son apparently took for a morning constitutional before joining his form.

Whoever said you are only ever as happy as your unhappiest child was really onto something.

After a day with our hearts racing, trying to make sense at work, DH and I collected DS looking much happier. Apparently everyone is nice, it was pizza for lunch and he has even made a friend who isn’t a dog (although not got as far as learning his name). He lost a school tie, which is impressive as he couldn’t get a tie off on Sunday!

I feel I’ve had all the emotions today, and tomorrow we tackle round two- the school minibus.

If anyone else fancies feeling less alone in a sea of cheerful Facebook doorstep photos ( all of which I liked, and meant it, by the way), please share 🙂
