Parents of adult children - at what child age was your now adult most like they are now?

My mostly lovely 0-14 year old has been abducted by aliens and I have been given an unrecognisable 16 year old instead. None of the interests, values, sense of fun are there any more, none of the energy or humour. Just a (mostly) surly, dour, lazy, unhelpful low aiming teen with nothing to say to any of us.
Am I to expect that this personality is closest to his adult one? Will the lovely 8 year old make an appearance again or will the adult be nothing like any of these?
I am curious to know how it has turned out for others.
I am hoping that the adult will be like his 12 year old self. Or gosh, even his 3 month old self!

Don't worry.

The lovely one comes back at some point.
Varied a bit with mine, but certainly all. by the time they left for University.
Generally some time during 6th form.
